buying entire setup, suggestions?

I was thinking about getting my entire setup for a new grow pretty soon, looking to drop about 2k.

I dont want to go on ebay and make about 30 different orders for different things. Plus its gotta be cheaper somehow to order everything at once rather than one at a time...right?

Anybody have experience with any sites? Any suggestions?

Go to a local shop and if you are worried borrow a friends car so someone else with a different address (remember don't tell them shit) and get it all there. It's worth it because if you have some problems they'll return it no problem and I'm sure you can get a discount. My shop give me at least 10%, but mostly 20% off every time. Plus I can take back a bulb that is 11months old with receipt and walk out with a brand new one that second. Pus you'll be helping the local community you live in. Just keep the lips sealed and don't be pulling in with 4 - 12" beating down the block in your Caddy rolling on 24"

I would buy local, in case of equipment failure. If your ballast goes, how much will shipping be? And if you are in the middle of a grow.

You will have to go local to replace it :bigjoint:

I did the ebay thing for tents and lights, all together to include soil, pots, and nutes from local store i spent just under 1k$ i got 2 6.5x6.5x6.5 grow tents and 2 600watt switchable ballasts which included both an HPS and MH bulb for each so i have 4 bulbs.

I was in a similar situation and I did some shopping around online and found that eco enterprises had the best deals i could find. The web address is ecogrow.com. They have pretty much everything you could need plus they also offer free gifts depending on how much you spend, along with free shipping on orders over $250. Make sure you check out the free gifts though, those are pretty sweet.

bleh I looked at ecogrow they have some ridiculous pricing on some things. But I do like the free shipping option. Any1 else know of any sites with good free shipping?

Go local buddy. You live in the states I imagine?

I'm in mainland Europe and I got my whole set up for under 500 euros. With that said, I bought two HPS lamps, 250w for vegging and a 600w for flowering when I realised the 250 wouldn't suffice (6 plants).

You really don't need to spend that much.. and like everyone else said GO LOCAL - you will not regret it.

Also, if the grow shops sell any clones - get em! 99,9% of the time they'll be bug-free - after all, it's a grow shop, not your neighbourhood joe.

Besides, they give you such a head start in comparison to seeds and you're sure they're female - no bullshit.

htg supply is great i bought all my stuff there for the past couple years. they have geat costomer service too. they will replace anything that goes wrong. they answer emails almost imidiatly. i dont have anything negative to say about them

ebay is good, you can contact the ebay stores and ask about a multi item discount and if they will send you an invoice for all the items you want so you can make one transaction.

Cheap hydro seems alright to me so far, some of the prices u can get cheaper in other places however.

I got most of my set up between HTG Supply and dchydro.com

Both have pretty good prices and they both have real storefronts w/ phones that are actually answered by people and not machines.

Also, once you get set up, probably be a good idea to watch Craigs List and catch an extra ballast cheap as a backup in case of failure in the middle of a grow. I run 600w Quantums (bought new) and a week after I got them in place I found one on CL for 90 bucks and bought it as a back up.

Why you buy at a local shop - When you buy at a store, if anything happens to break, bulbs, ballasts and reflectors are under warranty. The store will just swap you out for a new one when you bring the broken equipment in. By the time you ship out your broken 30lb ballast to the california ebay seller, the cost of shipping and the time spend in the dark will not be worth the savings online. A lot of the new technology on the market is not 100% perfect. Digital ballasts have all sorts of problems. Plus when you buy online, most of the quality is shady. Ebay sellers like High Tech Gardening selling cheap ballasts that catch fire. 2 year warranty? Get a 5 year warranty at the store and a better quality product. Plus hydro stores are there to answer your questions and steer you in the right direction and solve your problems, as long as you don't say anything stupid or shady.

You do pose a good argument as to why you should buy locally and support your local hydro shop but if I did this when I bought my six 600w Quantum dimables locally verses online I would have spent 1470.00 (with tax $1598.63) -vs- $990.00 w/o tax (with shipping$1020.00) Savings buying online was $578.63...Even add in the used Quantum I bought off CL for 95.00 as a back up ballast I still saved $483.63 and I do have a 5 year warranty with my online purchase. As much as I hope they maintain a profitable bottom line I can't see handing them almost 600.00 more than what I spent to ensure their profitability.
