can clones be planted straight into soil??

Ok after you cut a clone, and dip it in the powder or gel, can you pop it straight into soil and water it to grow?
Or if not what do you do?

You can. but your rate of survival seems to go down. I did it for about 6 months and then went back to Jiffy pucks and got a much better survival rate.

Of course you know you have to put them in a humidity dome to root.

So you cant just cut it, dip it, and put it in some soil? They have to establish a better roots in a humidity dome first for better survival rate? However your saying it can survive by just putting it in soil? So the dome just develops a better root system this increasing likelihood of survival?

when i first started off i would cut and put straight into promix never used any hormones and i had about 80% survival rate they took a lil longer to root but it worked as of now i do it a lil diff cut dip promix now my survival rate is about 98% i dont use a dome just mist twice a day so a dome is not needed unless you live in a really dry place well imo

I have done 12 clones cut scrap and place in root powder straight to soil. I mist the leafs and light water I have 5 that are doing well. Not a good average but I got 5 that are almost ready to veg. So it can be done by a newbie but you have to watch them. I never had a dome or anything I just keep them really close to light and leave on 24/0 for about 2 weeks then I just water as normal. I know there are better ways just sharing what I did.

I just took a clone today and put it straight into soil. Didnt use any rooting agent but its from a plant with really good genetics, i dont have a dome so im just hoping for the best. Should i put it on 24/0?

I am gonna buy the proper stuff to clone but for now i just kinda wanted to see if it would work

you could do 24/0 remember they dont need much light till they get roots a 23 watt cfl will do fine like 6 inches above

if u got an old see through plastic bottle cut it in half and put it over the cutting or elastic band a sandwich bag over the pot. for lighting u can go 18/6 or 24/0 but they only need a small amount of light for clones to root.

It won't is my bet. Root Shooters are recommended along with a humidity dome even if you make one. Instead of a $50 hydrofarm seedling mat buy one at half-price by going to PetSmart for a reptile mat. Then cut your clone, dip in powder, insert in damp Root Shooter and place under dome. Then your concern is "damping off" so watch the humidity as time goes by.

Best cloning method? A glass of plain tap water. An opaque glass so light can't hit the developing roots (or they won't develop well). Change the water every day or so. Free and easy.

Okay I'm gonna do the plastic bottle or plastic bag thing when I get home from work.. Is it normal for a fresh cutting to wilt quickly? And I have a 55 watt cfl I'm gonna put it under

Wow so even hormone gel and powder isn't a necessity, however they increase survival rater. 80 percent is not bad....maybe I'll just cut a few clones, pop them in good soil, and mist? Sound like it will work from your advice.

i think the problem with dip and plant is there just isn't enough moisture around the cut surface. wanna see really fast results? make or buy an aerocloner. there was a thread where this dude made his own for about 25 bucks. very handy he was. it works in a few as four days. ebay. about 50 to 75 bucks. you can get them from anywhere from 5 to idk, mb 100 sites for cuttings. the plant actually makes it's own hormone. that's why you CAN literally put a cutting into a glass of water and it will root. i learned not to use a hormone and an aerocloner because the powder or gel will clog up the manifold and you won't get the fine mist of water and oxygen that makes it work so well.

All I did was take my cutting off a plant at a 45 degree angle 2 to 3 weeks into flower and then I took my razor blade and kinda skinned it at the bottom of the stem where I made my cut and placed it directly into fox farm happy frog soil about an inch down and low and behold about 3 weeks later it is healthy and rooted and I have seen my first new growth. It has grown 4 or 5 single blade leaves that look kinda funky but I guess they are supposed to. It took awhile and I had to be precise on my watering but I got a cutting to root after 3 weeks with no gel or root cloning powder. Just soil, water and light

I have a friend and all he uses is Clonex, then straight into soil. He swears by it, but I had very limited success using his method and went back to cubes.

I realize how old this is but wth. I just cut at angle and stick in rockwool and keep under dome. The key in the process is keeping the moisture in the cubes and the dome proper. Cheers, clone supplements are expensive and you don’t need them.

You don't use any rooting hormones at all? Just water?
