Can HPS be used to veg?

I have a 600w hps light. As I dont have funds alailable at the moment to buy a hps to MH converted globe can I use Hps to veg with good results? or is it just better to leave them under my week flouro tubes or outside.

Absolutely - HPS will give much better results than flouros. It is a system many use that only have one space. You just ahve to change the light cycle when you decide to flower. Flouros are good for seedlings and starting clones - even supporting a mother plant, but the HPS will serve you well in veg. You just need to mind the heat.

but... a floro like this http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=SSG104&AC=1 will out preform the equivalent wattage of hps... basically a 400w hps has nothing on this floro...

i currently use both types.. i have 4 of the floros and 2 hps... and believe me when i say the floros way out shine the hps...

first... the floros dont get hot.. at all.. i think they might hit 90 degrees.. where as an hps will easily burn your hand...

secondly, i can keep the floros less than an inch away from the plants without any problems.. hps that close will burn your plants and cause light bleaching..

lumens are about equal.. a 400w puts off 50,000... these floros put off 44,000.. but.. since lumens are rated at 1 foot from the light source, if you figure that you can keep the floros so close the plants are getting WAY over 44,000 lumens at canopy... penetration is high also.. 24" or so..

hps set ups are cheaper tho... i wont lie.. but add in the heat and the need for extra ventilation and circulation and costs are about the same...

definitly will serve you right.......i veged under a 150 with great results i know your 600w do you justice

I use a 400W HPS to veg in my AK X WW grow journal with good results. Take a look, it should put ur mind @ ease..
