can i get charged with anything is i stab someone attacking me? in New jersey

my state is new jersey. say i get into an arguement with this big buff black guy that lives around the apartment (he complains that i walk my dog in the courtyard and that i shouldnt be doing that) anyways knowing him he might try punching me or something if i refuse to listen to him (he has no authority over where i walk my dog, hes just a renter) could i stab him if he "attacks" me?

Just make sure he leave's marks on you. And make sure that the knife you use is not considered illegal where you live. And ya might want too move after cus he's bound to come back and shoot ya for stabbing him

make sure u got a witness, cuz if he does and u dont....
also, maybe a stun gun would be better.
stun him then call the cops on his ass and stun him everytime he tries to get away.

1. Pick up your dog's shit from the courtyard, and let him know you do this if he starts talking shit.

2. Get a tazer just in case. Much more effective at keeping somebody from beating your ass, plus less risk of killing someone. You'd feel horrible if you killed someone by accidentally clipping an artery, even if it was in self defense.

Yea, bad idea. Unless you are pretty quick or deadly with that knife, after you stab him the 1st time, he will most likely fly into a rage, end up taking the knife away from you, and stabbing you to death with it. Get a taser, that way you know he isn't getting back up after you zap him a few good times. After a incident like that, it would probably be a good idea to get a gun for protection, for when he gets out of jail and comes after you again for tazeing him.

carrying a pocket knife will be considered a concealed weapon. if you don't have a permit, you'll be fucked.

assault with a deadly weapon is a felony.

tell him to fuck off. cus him out and wait.

if he attacks you, let him rough you up, report him to the police, and you'll probably have enough ammo to get him thrown in jail and evicted from the property if your landlords consider your complex a half decent place. either that or youll have enough for a restraining order, which if he violates he goes to jail.

either one of these will get the big buff black guy off your back, problem solved.

the other idea, the stabbing, will only get one big buff black guy off your back, and get you another in his place, only the second will be using your asshole as a pussy.

dude idk about nj but most places if its a fist fight and you pull a knife and cut someone you go to jail. if he has a knife thats a diff story

You just can't stab someone because they are big and buff....you'll get charged with something unless you go out your way to make it look like he was going to hurt you but thats a pretty shitty thing to do

I will tell you from experience that self defense is a legal defense but 10 years ago I got charged with exessive use of force even though self defense was recognized they say I took it to far so I would say defend yourself but when you can walk away freely DO IT!

we all have the ability for communication. sitting around like a little psycho planning murder just because some guy takes exception to you allowing your dog to crap in a communal yard is insane. I'd expect you to be out there once a month cleaning it down with bleach. if he punches you you'll deserve it for being such a little coward.

man up... and that doesn't mean prove your dominance by stabbing an unarmed man. it means approach the guy with respect and expect his, apologise if you have to. It's all about respect.

That's b/c in some states you can only use reasonable force to defend yourself.
But if the person is using lethal force against you, then you can do it back, but ONLY if they use lethal force upon you first.
It really varies in different states.
I had to write an essay on self defense before for college; so I know for a fact that's how it is.
I'm pretty sure New Jersey has a Castle Doctrine Law, but not sure how else the self defense laws are there.
Look up New Jersey's laws on self defense, I'm sure you'll find something.

NJ is a FLEE first law. You MUST attempt to leave the incident BEFORE you can use self defense, EVEN if someone breaks into your home WITH a weapon. You are expected to LEAVE.. Great place NJ, not..

The tazer option is a good one. wear it on your belt so it can be seen. Most times that will avoid the conflict in the first place.
