Can I kill the lights, chop the top half, and resume with lower colas?

Hey guys, just wanted to find out your take on this dilemma...The top colas are all ready to chop--just sampled a bit and am flying. The bottom colas seem that they could benefit from a little more time and close, direct light. I planned to do 36 hours of darkness as I've concluded that it can plump up the colas/trichs a bit more. Can I resume with the 12/12 on the lower colas after the 36hours of darkness, or is that gonna kill the rest of the plant. Should I just harvest the whole thing?

Here's my setup:

One giant AK48 beast in a closet grow
DWC bubbler in a rubbermaid tub
approx 300W CFLs (2x 100W, 2x 46W)
Flora Nova grow, then bloom

At the end now, so I've flushed and have only water with some diluted molasses and sugar (made a simple syrup with about 2tbsp each).

Thanks!!!

yes you can harvest the top and let the rest continue growing, is called a staggerd harvest. i wouldnt worry bout letting them continue after the 36 hr thing, it shouldnt hurt them a bit, hope this helps

IMO you should just forget about the 36 hors darkness if the rest of your plant isn't ready, i would just chop what is ready and let the rest grow then if the 36 hours of darkness actually works then do it with whats left. Post some pics i'd like to see big your buds are :D

you could do that too lol i was gonna say this to begin with but if your absolutly stuck on the 36 hr thing either way wouldnt really matter since your so close to the end of its life cycle

Thanks a lot for the quick replies guys. I don't think I can sacrifice any weight on my biggest colas for the lower ones. So I think I'm gonna do the 36 hour and resume. Going longer for the whole plant wouldn't help the lower colas anyway since theyre about a foot from the CFLs. I wanna give em a chance to get close to the light for a week or two. Thanks!!

Well, after cutting the lights, harvesting the big colas and resuming with the lower buds--I can definitely confirm that this works. The colas harvested nicely at 100 percent cloudy trichs, and now I'm resuming with the lower buds. In the last week and a half, the smaller buds that remain have swelled and grown to almost double the size. It took 2-3 days of close light exposure to see them beginning to respond, but they're definitely growing strong and unaffected by the period of darkness. They are still not ready though--I'm gonna take these to about 20 percent amber trichs, and just a few buds to over-ripe at about 50-75 percent amber as a test to see what I like.

The high from the colas (no amber trichs), is a very strong energetic high, and is definitely a HIGH rather than a stone. Great social high and daytime high, but not a great chill high. Will see what going a little longer will do. Will definitely try a more indica dominant strain next like aurora indica or master kush. still haven't decided what to get from nirvana...

i've harvested 3/4 of a plant and then let it re-veg for 2 weeks. I then threw it back into flowering for 8 weeks and harvested again!

Great idea! I am gonna try this to let the lower bud spots get light after harvesting the main ones.

I just did this same thing except I skipped the darkness because my tops were finished. I have all of them bottoms finishing now under the 1K watt hps. I have a good feeling they will react very well. I added some molasses to the water and they are starting tomorrow first day with lights on and no tops buds left. Good luck! :D I will let you know how it goesbongsmilie:sleep:
