You need to let roots develop, at least that is what I have gathered. When you say "off a plant", I assume you mean directly. If get a close that has developed a decent amount of roots, not just cut from another branch, than I think you are totally good to go. Just finishing up my first grow in waterfarms, and that exactly how I did it. Good luck, those waterfarms are the best! I can't contain my plants they are so bushy!

agreed once it is rooted sure i wouldnt try to root a clone in a water farm

ive heard of it being done ....but not likely....thats too risky,...youre better off letting some roots develope

Yeah but we let the seed crack and then put it into the waterfarm right??? Im just curious on what the difference would be or not..

the difference is when a seed cracks the first thing that comes out is the "tap root" it basically the main root that digs down for water before it spiders more roots from it, the clone on the other hand is a cutting with no roots at all so anotherwords if a plant has no roots they need very little water or it could take months for roots to pop from it. im sure its prably been done but i wouldnt waste my time for 25 bucks i can root healthy clones (up to 40 at a time).

i use a humidome with rapid rooters clonex rooting gel and hormex rooting hormone, i soak the rapid rooters in hormex and water mix and add some to the bottom of the tray then when i take my cuttings i cut at 45 degree angle then split the stem up 1" then dip in the rooting gel then into the rapid rooter i get 95% sucess with roots in 7 days.

You CAN take a cutting from soil, wash the soil off GENTLY in water and then into the waterfarm.
Some will survive, some may slow down from shock at first, and some will die.

You can also clone the same way Dr GT does, except instead of going into a rooter plug (always use; stay away from shitwool/rockwool) you can stick them in neoprene inserts and put those into a DWC bucket with some Clonex or Olivia's solution and no need for a dome, misting or supplying heat under them.
You'll get roots in the same time frame, then just remove from the insert and plant dircetly into your hydroton SOFTLY and watch them take off thanks to that drip ring.

If you put the WaterFarm up on a milk crate or something, you can use the blue tube on the side to drain the res into a bucket. It's pretty nice, especially if your going to be doing a SCROG where reservoir changes can be difficult/impossible. I was doing it the hard way until someone suggested draining it, and it's really convenient. Then, you can mix your nutrients and just pour over the hydroton until the water reaches the optimal level marker on the same drain tube. The best part, is that you can pour some of the res into a glass and now you can test PPMs and pH very conveniently. Hempy Buckets looks pretty nice too though!

Hey bro the waterfarm doesn't need to be that high up in the air to drain because of the water pressure. Just use bowl or something you can dump into a bucket. I've got mine on a couple of pieces of 4x4 wood. Scrog about 10-12 inches above the bucket and put your light at its maximum height (no more than four feet though, if it's a 400w hps). Check out this grow and it will answer all your questions https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/344359-pineapple-express-g13-labs-seed.html

you can do a per/ver mix i choose to do 100% perlite for no specific reason but it works great i actually take a clone then put it in a 3x3 rockwool and veg it in my ebb&flow tray for a while till the roots are well established then when they are i go straight to the hempy bucket (5 gal) where they will be for a long while. not quite sure how old that mom is but she has been around for a good long while prably about 5 months and has donated hundreds of clones. i will need to replace her soon as i think she is prably very rootbound not sure though. i water with straight water once every 3 waterings (ph'd of course) and the rest is my normal nute mix. but no changing res's or anything like that it is very nice.

Ya this way looks fool proof plus u get some aspects of the farm with the res kinda at the bottom...So i think im going this way with 6 pots under a 400 in a sealed closet what do u think?? Sorry DR.G for all the ??? but is coco as good or better than the perlite becuase if so i will use the coco but i know this is how im doing now just need to figure out the best medium...
