Just one noob question...

Can plants in DWC drink water, but "not" nutrients?
My previous plant drank a lot of water in late veg stage, I'm talking a gallon a day, but when I check ppm levels, they are pretty much the same as it was the day before.

She was in high heat, high humidity environment under 300w mars hydro led.
82.5f to 91.4f
60 to 80% humidity

If it can drink water but not "use" nutrients, then adding nutrients to the DWC reservoir without measuring is not recommended, as you can overfeed?

Yes, they can toward the end of the flowering stage. Some people say that it makes the flower taste better, but others claim that there is no difference from plants that aren't purged of nutrients.

ALWAYS measure nutes for dwc.

In a pot with soil, I would use several gallons of distilled water to flush nutrients out. This would be done at one time, repeating every time the soil dries out to avoid rot. Regular water could be used, but the pH of distilled water is always 7 and doesn't require fiddling. However, hydroponics is a little more complicated. I think that plants MAY need to be weaned off of the nutrients to avoid a problem, although an experienced hydroponics grower would know more about that process.

But how is that purging nutes from the plant?

That actually makes a lot of sense. If I topped up reservoir with a gallon of water it drank that day, then I would see the ppm go down as the remaining nutrient solution would become diluted by the water.
I didn't do this, but I assume that's what you mean, and that's what would happen.

I am starting tot hink they could drink pure water at night and not need any nutrients until the lights come on?

What happens to the nutrient running up the stem and all around the plant when you chop it?

The water evaporates and leaves the salts behind.
