Can you set up an automatic watering system indoors, while your on vacation?

Right now I am ordering my plants manually with a spray bottle and a little cup.

I am wanting to know what sort of setup I would need, to connect to my kitchen faucet which would allow me to automatically water my plants while I'm gone or even if I was there.


I've seen various setups including container but which will work best?

One side of my apartment is pretty far from the faucet so it would need its own holding tank but the other side is really close where I'm going to grow my short Autoflowers and it wouldn't have to have a reservoir as it could be watered from the faucet and some sort of a hose and a pump.


But let's say that I was going to go on vacation for 2 weeks or even a month and I would definitely be needing an option to water my plants while I'm gone.

It's not that important right now but in the future I will definitely be leaving the house and wanted to have options to keep my plants alive.

Anyways hit me with some knowledge.

As you can see the window is further away from the water.

But I'm sure there has to be some options.

There are tons of options. What are you growing in?

A month is a long time... Maybe you shouldnt be growing if you cant be home to take care of your plants.
If you are outdoors, let nature handle it

More like a week or two.

I can totally take care of my plants now but this is just something I was thinking about for the future like maybe 8 months from now.

Well right now at the moment I only have three (3) gallon pots that I would need to water.

But those are in the windowsill across from the kitchen.

So for that area I would just need an auto-watering system with a reservoir.

There isn't going to be any more than three plants in the window so whatever could work for that right now would be good.


In the future though I will have six 2 gallon pots on top of the shelf where I'm going to put small autoflowers.


So that one will be a little bit different perhaps but since it's closer to the water source I thought maybe I could just connect something to the faucet although I do use a Brita water filter on the faucet and I'm not sure that I could connect to auto-watering system to that.


So maybe the best is to just also have a reservoir.

A large enough reservoir for both areas would be good something that would allow me to leave for 2 weeks and there'd still be water in the reservoir when I came back.

This is all I need to water at the moment.

3 Cannabis Plants (not yet planted) and Two Primrose

But planning on having strawberries on the other side of the window, plus I have my primrose flowers on another table near the window.

this , a pump, some tubing , a timer and a res.

What would you recommend for tubing, timer and a pump and a reservoir, for just the window?

Also what about the kitchen area above the microwave, where there's a deep space to grow 2 foot autoflowers?

I'll have room for 6 two gallon pots there.

Do hydro and have a large ass secondary reservoir with a pump. Smaller pots will need to be watered more frequently with soil. A mature plant of about 4ft height will easily do a gallon per day. So you'd want a reso that can hold a gallon for every day you are gone, and then some so that the pump doesn't run dry. Maybe a couple sensors for emergency shut off.

I definitely would not leave a grow unattended for longer than a week though. You are bound to return home to a disaster after 1 month. Plants need some maintenance.

black silicon aquarium tubing, timer digital multi on/offs
per day, small submersible pump and a trash can for res. i can go away for 2 weeks with my setup

The size of the reservoir would be important.

I'm not sure how much my future cannabis plants will need in water.

I think for this first time, I'll be doing it by hand, since I'm not going anywhere right now.

yep and # of plants too of course.

Well if we're going to include the plants that I'm planning on growing it will eventually be 3, three gallon pots for cannabis, 6 strawberry 1 gallon pots and 2 primrose, plus a few more wildflowers, herbs.


I'll have to run some of the tubing through the window so I'm going to have to crack the window a little bit which will probably good to help control heat anyway.

Sometimes in this apartment even without any lights on during the summer it can get up to 80... But usually my temperatures are from 63° to 75 indoors without any heat lamps or heater.

I'll figure it out as time goes on.

You can set it up to automatically water your plants, or you can do it manually right through your phone, but you might have to be really close to the unit. You can take one line and attach a manifold near your plants, or you can do them separately from the 4 zones. Drip irrigation is the way to go!!
