Can you use a heavy duty ext.cord to power a 600 watt Galaxy Ballast ???

Ok I couldn't take it any more so I bit the bullet and purchased a 600 watt Galaxy Ballast, Sun System 2 6" A/C reflector and Fox Farm Trio for nutes. And now I'm worried about running my ballast using a extension cord because I don't have a 110v plug near by. Have some one coming within the next week or two for installation of additional 110v outlets, but my plant's just started flowering and I want to switch from using fluorescent to HPS......any suggestions would be appreciated..... Thanks

A short heavy cord could work short time. after plugging in. Feel the plug at the wall to see if it's getting hot.
