Canadian Winter what to do?

Hey Canadians what are you doing to get ready for your first LEGAL outdoor grow?

The other day I crushed up some lump charcoal and sprinkled it on top of my compost pile. Well on top of the snow on my compost pile and I'm letting it seep down into my pile as the snow melts. I figure it's something to do while I twiddle my thumbs getting ready for my outdoor grow next spring.
