I think you misunderstand.. 10% +/- goes as this..lets use your fish example.

A 20lb fish with a 10% margin would be 18-22 lb
A 20% thc with a 10% margin would be 18-22%
A 10% thc with a 10% margin would be 9-11% thc

You are taking the entire product weight and changing the thc value by 10% to come up with your figures

Take a smoke break clear your head and think about this for a minute. If you have 1 gram of weed that is 20% Total thc content.. we are talking 200mg of thc in that gram. A 10% +/- would be 180-220mg. Comparing this margin of error (different branches on the plants have diff values ) will give u that 18-22%
You are right my comparison was not accurate though. Percentage of lbs in my case works out how you say yes. But percentage margin of a percentage...

Breath deeply buddy I know you're upset but I think you still have this all wrong. A tolerance of 10% is saying something with 10% thc could be 9% thc total or up to 11% total. It isn't that difficult to understand. If you had a 10% thc gram and are coming up with 0% that is 100% less thc. You are using 10% from the total weight of the product.

Again 1 gram of bud with 10% thc is 100mg

10% tolerance +/- would give you a swing of 10mg on that 100mg, not a 100mg swing on the 1 gram.

The answer for this example is the bud that is rated for 10% thc could be 9% -11% thc. Hope this helps you calm down.

To be real though dispensary weed has always been a big let down for me, so I can relate to not liking dispo weed.

why would you think that I am upset, I just think the system is very silly, and leads to a lot of ridiculous % claims that can never be backed up or disputed. Like I said I smoke it all the same :bigjoint: :peace:

Sorry if my intensity comes of as anger it definitely is NOT that my friends, I just love this plant and think some of the things that have happened in recent years... proliferate and damn near encourage falsification. You don't need to lie to kick it.. you don't need to say your weed has 35% THC for it to be good. and that is probably not real life. One of you said about terps. I very much am in the camp that there are terp effects as well as MANY other entourage effects within all the different compounds. again never meant to come off as upset or angry. sorry if I did!

Nothing but Peace and Love!

What level of math education have you had? I spelled out how it works but you seem not to grasp what is very basic math to the rest of us.
I mean only high school, I understand what you are saying I just do not think they are applying the math they way that you say that they are. That is for sure how it SHOULD be applied you are right. sorry to upset you or make you think that I am :bigjoint:

When it's on the plant, most of the THC is in the form of THC-A. When you heat it up, like with a flame, a reaction occurs that turns the THC-A into THC.

If you look at the chart, it's only 3% THC but 30% THC-A, which will turn into THC as soon as you hit it with a flame...

That's how it is reported by any analytical lab. It's industry standard (not weed industry but chemical industry).

Regarding the 10 % error. You get what you pay for. If you want to pay 100 bucks and not 30 for your analysis you get into the 3-5 % error range. But what's the point? Crop to crop variance is larger than that and even in a single crop you test it 3 times and get 3 different results.
As an aside. If you have drug tablets they are allowed to vary up to 10 % in weight (and thus content of active ingredient).

See it as a guidance 15 % THC is different from 20 %.

This is the best explanation I have heard thank you!! 10% in like the rxs we take!? Holy shit no wonder... I always thought I was imagining that some times they seemed more effective then others!

So I guess the bottom line is use that number as a VERY rough guideline and maybe go more with your nose or other senses...... where can I find a job as a weed sommelier hahaha

Imo all of the % are nonsense because the science on how cannibanoids interact is still very young, and I've grown and smoked plenty sub 20% strains that blow 20% and above strains out of the water.

There's two surefire tests for potency, inhalation and ingestion. Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell something.

sadly ingestion does absolutely nothing to me but I am all about testing via inhalation! In fact trying some out now!! :bigjoint:

The only thing I can think of is the weed is getting old and the terps aren't there anymore. Do some research into terps and how they affect your high, this is something that is very interesting as far as how it affects your high. Chances are also that your tolerance is getting high
oldschool here and we didnt need terp numbers back when . 19-27% got you fkd up and no one gave a shit about the unknowns like terps and this and that.
