Ok my setup : 4"tall boy carbon filter, 4" 170 cfm inline fan, 6"cool tube (with reducers on each end), and 4" duct work connecting it all (about 12'). Passive air flow into the bottom of the tent through the flaps. Duct work vents outside the tent. 6.5x6.5x6.5 tent
Question is ; those of you who use a speed controller on your fan, do you think reducing the fan speed helps the carbon filter scrub better? I think I'm moving too much air. I put my hand @the end of the duct work and the air is really coming out fast... so I'm thinking of getting a speed controller. So lets hear it: opinions, experiences, information on your setup, or any information you think is usefull. And yes, its flowering time.
Thanks

The longer the air is in contact with the filter, the better it is going to be cleaned, but only up to a certain point. The scent particles need time to be trapped in the pores of the carbon, although if the air flow is too low you aren't optimizing your filtering capacity. I think the best way to find an answer is to take a sniff, if you are moving too much air, and it isn't getting scrubbed properly, you are going to have smell (obviously). At which point you should consider a bigger filter, because getting a speed controlling and reducing the air flow likely won't solve your problem at that point.

I thought about getting a 6" filter, but would have to change a lot of stuff due to the fact everything except for the hood is
4" now. Yeah it's stinky. I think the filter is big enough, just not sure if the air is spending enough time in it for the carbon to do its job. Thanks for reply.

I had a similar problem with my 5x8x6 tent. I had started out with a larger setup than yours, all 6" including a big filter and a much larger blower. I could smell odor far too soon for the carbon to need replacing. I figured the same as you and switched to a smaller blower (had to reduce in and out of the blower). That fixed it.

I shall try the fan speed control then. If it doesn't work im only out $20...
thanks for the reply.
