Carbon filter getting clogged

Hard water plus humidifier = tons of calcium carbonate thrown into the air, clogging carbon filter.

Mystery solved! You're welcome.
You are late. I asked about this on post 3 and it was explained about the dust and tap water already.

You're welcome!

Yeah, this is what I was thinking as well. Any way around this? Do I need to buy distilled water for the humidi?

Yep. Distilled water doesn't have the mineral content.

Another alternative is a swamp cooler. That's evaporative so it won't spew the minerals. It will build up on the cooler pads instead. Those are easier to replace, however.

I was thinking about running a small swap cooler plumbed into the side of the box... kinda defeats the point of growing in the armoire though. Seems like a decently priced RO unit might be the way to go... anyone recommend a decent, relatively cheap, low volume unit?

I use this one. And only for my 2500 cubic foot whole house humidifier anymore. My plants like my deep well water so I am still on it the first main filter (the expensive one to replace) and the second pre and carbon filters (relatively cheap to replace) in the 3rd year.

I used ro for my first 6 months or so growing first.

This ro filter is cheap and comes with a bunch of new carbon/sediment filters, works fine, I have a few of them, was getting like 7-10ppm our of it, changed the membrane to a filmtec for ~20 bucks on amazon and now 0 ppm ro water out of it. I use an ultrasonic humidifier, no problems with my carbon filter using that with this ro unit.
