Carbon Filter Odour problem!!

Hey guys i am having problem I have a 6inch carbon filter and I do not think it is doing its job. it is connected in this way first the carbon filter tubing to my light more tubing till the fan then tubing till it gets outside.
I still have a really big smell everywhere I am growing blue cheese so I really need it to do its job can anyone tell me there opinion

Uh . . . why are you filtering hood cooling air? In from outside - - - > over your light - - - > back outside. Right? So the tent or room air (along with the smell) is not passing through the cannister?

I think he is just exhausting his room improperly hot rod. he has filter light and out probably with a passive intake...

the proper thing to do would be to run from outside the room through the light and back to the outside sealed off from the room then run an exhaust at the top of the room with your scrubber... how old is it and is it big enough is what I would ask

The way he describes it is he's cooling the light via the cannister. I have seen a number of people do this as they are unclear from reading what to do and why they are doing it.

yea I kinda cringe when I see those pictures where they have a filter and 3 lights all hooked together in a row pulling hot air over hot air over hot air but I havn't run into filter outside of room through light and out thats just silly... silly stoners.
the proper way to vent multiple lights is with a trunk line running from one end of the room to the other then vent in and throgh the light to the trunk line for each indevidual light then th trunk lign is exhausted out or something like that if I remember correctly. as little bends and as much hard duct as possible not a room full of floppy bullshit.

I have my carbon filter in the tent hung at the top then it goes to the light then to the extractor fan then outside not sure but is this a bad setup I don't see how it is bad let me know guys

It is about 2 months old

either your filter is old or your cfm ratings on the filter and on the fan werent matched up. the filter wont work unless its paired up with the right fan.

I've heard of people just setting their carbon filters in their room (no air being pulled through them by a fan) and swearing by it's success. They actually said it works better that way. I don't remember why they thought it was better though:/ Any truth to this? I find it hard to believe for obvious reasons...but have been proven wrong in the past when I believed something was absurd, lol.

lol no that wont work but ive heard that the filter AND fan sitting in the room recirculating the air in it works somewhat. i wouldnt think it would get rid of ALL the smell but would certainly help im sure.

So how do I connect the cannister ?

Can't understand y it will only last 3 months is this true

So how is the best way to setup a filter

I would advise this chain.

Light > Extractor fan > carbon filter. You want your filter to be the last chain, so that the air is pushed through the filter.

Activated carbon loses it's properties of removing smell. You don't need a new filter, you just need new carbon.

wow...thats not good advice at all..

I may have said this wrong, as it also depends on how your carbon filter is designed. A can filter can be used differently.

Sorry if I spread wrong information :C

in a set up like this you DONT want to push air you want to pull it the fan is last in line Filter > Light > Fan i have had good luck with an oversized filter with a smaller fan running at lower speeds it give more contact time between the filter and contaminated air flters are rated in max CFM and contact time need

Your set up is fine. Your using your vent kinda like duel purpose for the lights and the room, I get it, How is your humidity in the tent? The more humid your room the less effective your filter will be. Carbon can only do so much in the best of cases, humidity clogs pores and air passes right by. If you really want to get rid of the smell a inline ozonator is the 100% cure for it. Yoy could get rid of the carbon filter all together and increase your cfm's.

Their costly but well worth it IMO.
