Does light go through cardboards ? I'm cheap and have lots of cardboards laying around and want to build couple of dark rooms, or a big ass curtain. i have spray to paint black outside and white in. would this work , or should i get like 3 layers in there. i dont kno bout ceiling lights but im quite sure the hps goes through. i dont want to waste time making a non light proof box and then be like shit. any ideas for a broke man like me?

Well I have cardboard covering my window so the light can't be seen from outside and it seems to work great.... you can't see the light from my room outside.

Of course that's just a window cover.... I have no idea about building a box or room out of it.... seems it would be difficult to cover all the cracks/seams. Also it would sketch me out to have a HID light around the cardboard... seems to me that could be a fire hazard.... but I'm no expert on cardboard so I could be wrong.

Yeah, big fire hazard. I wouldn't recommend it. If you were just using CFLs it would be fine... but to answer your question, yes, if u paint the inside white (or use Mylar or aluminum foil) and the outside black, it should be light proof. Like Florida Girl said, the seams would be hard to seal if not a pre-built cardboard box.

Just get some wood and make a box.
Why not get a toy box or something, there was someone who stuck two rubbermaid containers ontop of eachother for a growbox.

They are cheap, easy to cut, easy to use, kinda lightproofable.

Cardboard is just a hazard, it's not strong...

Yea i had the fire in mind. But i'm gonna have a decent space , around 26 feet long and 15 feet wide, and quite tall, tall enough to have a lamp hanging with 6 foot plants underneath. Maybe make walls to separate the space and not boxes. I don't intend to keep the cardboards too close to the lights/plants, it's just a measure of separating my bed and the grow area (and maybe within the grow space) so i have my space and not live in compete darkness.

I've passed out in my grow room and its frightening waking up when the lights are still off its like being caught in an avalanche.

rubber sounds good too though..
