You have to remember that you and your future roommates may be friends right now, but later on down the road WHILE still living together there IS going to be some sort of falling out. I can guaran-damn-tee it. Living with friends can be very rough on the relationship.

Fletch is right about you personally being subject to charges within 1,000 feet of an educational establishment, typically doubling your sentence and/or fines. Our country and every state under it's flag have an array of dynamic ranges to charge us for our misdeeds. The most literal sense of this is true aswell, in that we are charged. Either you are charged bail/bond or you get charged with crimes. Gracing the court system with money and acquiring more than adequate legal resources can shake most worries that take sincere consideration for the risk/profit ratio. Some states have laws that identify residents of a property to be "maintaining a common nuisance" (living where knowledge of drug activity occurs) which is a Felony. If it cannot be proved that you live there, they will charge them with maintaining a common nuisance and then later, once unable to produce evidence that they reside there (IF unable to prove they reside there). Then there's "visiting a common nuisance", again, this is only in some states, but is a misdameanor charge of being present where knowledge of drug activity occurs. In addition, for any common nuisance charge to stand, the common nuisance (the house) can only be considered a "common nuisance" if the residense has been indicated in any previous drug related activities. So the second anyone living there gets popped for a drug charge, your house would now be a common nuisance if a connection between them and that address can be made (once again, proving that they live there or something), however laws of this kind are not on Ohio's books. (and another good point Fletch made, about weeding out the weak witnesses (roommates), is that they can testify a number of ways (and many times in exchange for what they think is leaniancy, but really is just cop scare tactics since the police know half the shit they say won't hold up in court, but accents what they see as investigative strategy... DO NOT underestimate the dark side of the 5-0 though, they can scare your buddies into turning on you, and all they have to do is pull over one of your buddies friends after they leave your house, and if that person smokes, is ridin dirty or has any illegitimacy about their driving/criminal record, or is on probation (no rights), then you can get ratted out in the scare.) Loose Lips sink ships bro.. and the feeling of entitlement that can become overwhelming among a large group of testosterone driven young men is pretty strong. It's a gamble, if you don't know you can do it, you shouldn't be doing it, honestly :| that is completely unbiased advise. There is no crime in being aware of the parameters of your gamble, that's how professional poker players make money, it's a semi-science, typically, certain outcomes can be relied on from particular elements of an operation and the people who know about it. Now, you can hire an attorney to do all the thinking for you on the topics I've touched here, if you need that at any point.. or you can roll the dice and try to better your chances of having good luck, they say Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Plat probably knows ohio way better then me.I had family there but dont know thier specific but I know cops and the process so thats what I base my thoughts on. Now remember if you all get mail delivered to that address or a utility is in thier name they have established residence at that address so they would be responsible. So as long as thye dont get bills, mail or school registration or vehicle registration to that address you might be able to fool them.

Honestly, by the time you pay to set everything up and the extra electricity, you probably would be better off just purchasing ready to use.

5 roommates spells disaster because they can't keep their mouths shut and all the friends that come over with each one. You will get busted, guarenteed.

If your not a medical patient, the penalty for growers is a little different than a user and even 2-3 plants can ruin your life. (Depending on your record and State you reside in) Is it really worth the trouble?

dude, if they say no to growing then dont do it. they wouldnt get in trouble as long as if you got caught you take the blame and say they had no idea you were growing. with 3 plants you wouldnt face jail time. if you claim you were growing to smoke and not distribute you would probably get probation , fines, and community service, maybe even rehab. i doubt you would have to spend time in the penitentary for 3 plants. I forgot what the maximum amount of plants you could grow claim that is for personal use. think it was 8 plants. anyone here can us in on the law?

I forgot something. Ohio, along with many other states (most states) have pre-trial diversion, which allows for you to never face charges in court (this typically comes in handy for first time offenders (drugs), but especially if it's a first offense for anything, (obviously not speeding tickets etc)) alternatively, the path most traveled after that is conditional discharge, which allows the judge to set a condition to set you free, such as the completion of probation for a duration of time without getting into trouble, and once the probation has been completed, either you do or do not have the ability to have it cleared from your record, but as I said before, anything under 100g is a ticket citable by a $100 ticket only, which does not create a criminal record in Ohio as it is a minor misdameanor. the great thing about this is that overall dude, you'll be fine, until you start actually getting weight out of those girls... they are completely lackin in value and thus, risk, until they have some baby arms on em :|

well what you could do is just let the idea of growing fade from your roommates minds and get one of those very large plastic storage box, set it up and grow 3-4 lowryders with a carbon filter in your closet..........you could even use cfls:hump::joint:

Yeah, I am going to grow in my closet that is behind my bed. You have to more my bed and end table to get in it. I also never told them I was going to for sure, just said I was thinking about it to make sure they were not strongly against the idea. All of them were actually excited at the idea. So will just grow in the closet and not mention it and no one will find it.

I am just blown away that it is just a misdemeanor if you are growing one or two plants. That is crazy, I love it. Thanks again everyone for your help and opinions.

dude you can't do that, your friends need to be aware of the plant, otherwise they really will screw you over if cops come into the picture, because you didn't trust them enough to tell them, and just let me tell you, you're not gonna make a stealth op they don't know about, if you're ever not there, they're in your room, they will figure it out, or just the humming, the heat, the light, the planty smell, or even the smell of particularly clean air, not to mention condensation on your window and no one elses. you wanna be mr. clean? you wanna grow, they need to be cool with it and they need to know what to say if anything happens, stories need to be straight. get them on the know how and you'll convert them all to the passion of grow. you're in ohio, it wouldn't matter if your house were a brothel

They do not care if I grow just as long as they do not get in trouble. I figure the less they know the less chance they have of getting in trouble.

Platinum has only mentioned the laws in Ohio regarding possession. Not cultivation. The laws are still very lenient compared to other states, but if you are caught, they will weigh the whole live plant. Roots and all, my friend.

Here is what NORML says regarding the state laws in Ohio:
Ohio - NORML

Say your plant is mid-way through flowering, and you've done a good job. This is wet weight, by the way. You'd probably get no less than a fifth degree felony. Chances are, it would be a third degree felony. Double that weight if you're growing two plants. You'd be likely to get a few years of jail time. Unless the judge is extremely lenient for a first time offender and just decides to fine you for over ten grand and put you on probation for most of the rest of your natural life. This is assuming there are no nearby children living in your apartment complex and you and none of your roommates have been charged with a crime before, especially a drug related one.

Additionally, very few judges if any will extend the conditional statutes to a cultivator. You'll almost undoubtedly be charged with "conspiracy to traffick/distribute" as well. A good lawyer might be able to get you out of that one if there are no scales, marijuana in baggies, or anything of the sort found in your residence. And that's a very good thing, as a cultivation and conspiracy charge would absolutely land you in jail.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I don't want you to have your head in the clouds and disregard the reality of your state's laws regarding cultivation because of your desire to grow. Knowledge is power, and the information you received before was a bit misleading, though not intentionally. A plant's wet to dry ratio is about 1:10; there are also the stalks, roots, and leaves to consider. If you really think you can do this, great. I'm a bit hesitant to give my absolute, tacit approval because it seems all of your roommates are concerned for their own safety... And it's also very difficult to not tell ANYONE, especially as the grow progresses and your pride in your prized crop grows. It's something a lot of first time growers do. Loose lips sink ships. My approval, however, is not needed nor warranted.

Just keep in mind there is a lot of risk. I'm not in a position where I personally feel comfortable growing right now again, so I'm only growing legal psychoactive plants.

I wish the best of luck to you. But do the research yourself, my friend, and don't believe what others tell you at face value just because you want it to be so. Platinum did mention some conditional situations, but any plant in the flowering period is going to weigh a fair amount.

But if you do go through with it, the good people here at RIU are a wellspring of information.
