this is just a quick question...what do you plan to do when the stalks get too fat? everytime i try to cut CDs, they shatter and blow shrapnel everywhere. GL if they cut anything

Gawd! That's a great use for CDs that tons of digital reverb.

The 5/8" hole is large enough for medium sized plants, i havent had any problems yet.
If you wanna grow them larger just place a few in the pot, like in the second photo.

I've never done this CD thing, but I would imaigine if you took a couple strips of duct tape and put them on the cd before you broke/cut it the shrapnel wouldn't be too bad.

nice idea. im going to try this but put cut the cd in half and put half on one side of the stem and half on the other.

might try this with my 1st grow. although i remember when i left a cd on my window sill once, it damaged the cd and burnt it. so i dont know how much heat they can stand before they come non-reflective if u know what i mean

The cd can be a pain to cut unless you have a band saw.
be careful!

3 liters is perfect for the size of the cd.

If you have any bad hard drives laying around, tear them apart and take a look at the platters, see what you think about those.

The first thought that comes to mind and not to say this is a bad idea, but possibly something that would render itself useless in time. It just seems like it would make it a pain to water the plants. And also, keeping them clean, it seems like you would be spending more time keeping the discs clean than what the results were producing, especially once the plants filled out and obscured the discs. Just my .02 worth.

Ive had no problems with watering or with the disc needing to be cleaned, whatsoever.
Also i water alot less, now that its not all evaporating from the top of the soil.
