6 plant deep water culture system
first attempt at hydroponics and cultivation

The Water.
Owning a saltwater fish tank i have a vast background in water and lights, ranging from how to filter water via distilling to baking baking soda as an additive to raise PH. My current water supply is Reverse osmois / deionized water with an average ppm of 0-1. My water filter was purcahsed from ebay and i cant complain about it the TDS readings are amazing.

The Light
The lighting used will be mainly compact flourcesnt 23 watt bulbs using 6000k for growth stage and 2700k for the flowering stage . i also have a 20 watt flourcesnt tube i am using as supplmental lighting. this tube is i the 14000k spectrum ( very blue ) and is mainly to encourage female growth from the added blue light. lights for the seedling and growth stage will be three 23 watt 6000k CFL bulbs, one 23 watt 2700k bulb, and one 20 watt 20 inch normal output t-8 bulb in the 14000k spectrum. more lights will be added when funding permits.

The Seed.

The seeds were collected from an enjoyable source. yet all seeds should be considered random. Small red hairs were visable in the flowers from the collected source. the overall buds were small thus giving me the impression the previous grower used a sea of green technique. Seeds were inserted into a ziploc bag with squirts of ro/di water mixxed with thrive alive red B1. Than placed atop my computer moninter for warmth. germenation took 3 days for all 6 seeds to show inital taproots. These seeds were than placed into individual rockwool plugs which were previoousy soaked in a soulotuin of h2o and lemon juice to hopefully adjust the PH towards the proper number.

The Seedling.

may 24 = day one
tap root showing from seed feeding light spray of thrive alive b1 red

may 27 = day three
plants 1, 3, 5, and 6 were still holding onto thier individual seed pods. after long thought, the belife of photosyntichs would be better for thier growth than the minute amount of nutirents stored in the seed, the seeds were removed. it appears to have had a " crinkling " effect on some of thier first shade leaves.

jun 1st = day eight
added 4 table spoons of BC boost
added 2 table spoons of BC grow
added 2.5 table spoons of Thrive alive b1 red
mixxed in 1 gallon bucket with ro/di water ( not PH adjusted ) to make concentrate for 4 gallons
poured a cup of this soulition into each plants media than it fell into the resoriver below, than added rest of souloution to the resovior.

jun 2nd = day nine
noticed some burns on plant 3
adjusted lights up approx 9 inchs off plants from the 3 they were. i have been peeking into the DWC chamber to view the growth of the roots. plant 4 is the fastest rooter. with roots already over 10 inchs long. while plants 2 and 4 roots havent really left the mesh pot yet. maybe, this is a sign of females.
i am particulary intersted in teh growth of plant 2. plant 2's inital leafs were serrated not rounded. this may be a sign of a satvia plant. =)

jun 3rd = day ten
plant 3's leafs have perked up some yet still yellow in some spots.
noticed simliar burns ( much smaller ) on plants 2 and 6 as well.
if the burns get worse on 2 and 6 i will remove the thought of heat burn and add the thought of nutrient burn to be the nature of thier injuries

jun 4th = day eleven
growth was not as impresseive as it was from day nine to day ten. the lights were from approx 9 inchs above the plants to 7-8 inchs, in effort to encourage faster growth. repeat heat burns are not expected since a fan has been added to the system to vent heat and move plants. planning to add the following nutrients to my over all mix in the following order. PH up / down. Root 66. magiCAL , and sugardaddy. i have started using techniflora products and will complete this grow with nothing other than thier brand.

jun 5th = day twelve
a nutrient change / water change. the new mix is
8 table spoons of BC boost
5 table spoons of BC grow
6 table spoons of BC thrive alive b1 red

this allowing the roots to air out. a significant growth spurt was noticed even tho some leaves were " droopy "

the supplied amount of thrive alive b1 red is far to low for a complete grow cycle. a supply run will be in order shortly and it is on the list.

plants 3's root system has yet to devolep as fast as the other 5 plants. this is probably the result of the most intense heat burn from the lights prior to installing the fan. i moved the lights down to 4 inchs

jun 12th = day twenty
plants 1 and 4 are showing amazing growth. these two plants receive the most direct lights compared to the other 4.
new mix

For 7 Gallons:
MIX 185ml (6.26 fl oz.) BC Boost 12 table spoons
MIX 93ml (3.14 fl oz.) BC Grow 6 tables spoons
MIX 53ml (1.79 fl oz.) Thrive Alvie B1 Red 2 table spoons
MIX 15ml (0.5 fl oz. ) Thrive Alive B1 Green 1table spoon
this mix is alot stronger in some areas. Thive alive b1 green was added for additional trace elements. The potental for a nurtient burn is large. An additional gallon of water may be needed. A possible soultion to a nutrient burn will be removing a gallon of the current bath ( and saving it ) and adding a gallon of fresh water. The next bath will be 4 gallons to conserve soloutions, yet giving the same potency of the water.

jun 14th = day twenty two
addition of a small 90 gallosn per hour pump. this will help keep the nutrients flowing through the roots and the souloution well mixxed.
also picked up magical and sugar daddy. mmmmmmm =)
4.5 table spoons sugar daddy
1 table spoon magical

jun 20th = day twenty eight
plants 1 and 4 are really taking off showing thier size and strength
plant 2 the sativa is keeping up
plant 3 is still the smallest and weakest plant.
plant 5 is doing well yet shaded by 4
plant 6 needs more observation

jun 21th = day twenty nine
added two 42 watt CFL 2700k bulbs to the lighting arrangement

jun 23rd = day thirty one
growth seems to be thriving since addation of the extra lights. more light is still needed before the bloom stage.
changed the nutriend bath today the new mix is as follows

pix!
for the rest of my pix check my gallery

day twenty nine of flowering. i think they are a bit small due to lack of proper lighting. im adjusting some lights from my fish tank to my buds in the next few days to help push these into a decent yeild.

these are on a low node that most people cut off. or the bottem of a stalk..

overall growth size.
