CFL Light Socket Question

If I buy one of these to power a CFL light and buy a Y adapter so I can have two 40-80w bulbs going from it, will it work? The max allowance is 75w, so I'm not sure if it'd be exceeding the maximum or not. If there's any better way to power my CFL lights (About 6 total) please let me know, I've been searching all day and can't find anything. Anything with ballasts or manual wiring I don't want to mess with because I don't want to run the risk of burning my house down since this is my first grow.

well my personal risk tolerance says 5W past rec's...I'd do it, but I don't have any kids or dogs or anything that I give a shit about burning up.... anyway, if you go on Amazon check out those "Studio light" adapters... I see all the DIY things and think "why"? you can buy dual sockets with cords rated for under $20 (read the specs, but I think they should handle 80W of juice) .... LOOK HERE

If it has a: 'UL' label on it and it is rated at 75 watts, that is the the max allowable under the guidelines of UL and their Lawyers...
IMO, ALL electrical products, with a UL on it, can exceed there ratings by 10% or less..... UL lists products and they are tested to there max allowable, then at least you should be able to exceed it by less than 10% and still be safe...
Good Luck man...

I'm pretty sure I found what I was looking for - http://www.amazon.com/Ace-Socket-Extension-Cord-1CB-006-009FBR/dp/B000GAUT1Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382876560&sr=8-1&keywords=light+socket+extension+cord - 150 Watt max

I don't think I need 9ft of extension though, does anybody have any links to some good cords?

Found another one for higher wattage CFL's - http://www.amazon.com/Socket-Cord-Vertical-Hanging-Light/dp/B003FL3MBK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1382876836&sr=8-6&keywords=light+socket+extension+cord - I need one that's about 1/2 the length though, will it increase any risks by having all that extra cord laying around?

ity might be my imagination, but I've noticed shit marketed toward weed growers cost more (probably because weed growers have deep pockets ha ha) .... anyway I think those ceramic sockets sold by HD, Lowes and on amazon for like 4-5 bucks can handle 150W easily (I think its for heat lamps et)

Yeah I've definitely noticed that. When I was looking for fans they were all around $100 for just a little 6" 400CFM fan, and the pre-made growing sets are way marked up too. Thanks for info, I think the ceramic sockets I need to hook up to a ballast though (just looked it up) and I'm skeptical because I don't want to mess the wiring up and burn down the apartment I live in, lol. If I can't find anything else I'm probably going to go with 2-3 of the 150w max cords, 450w is good enough for two plants I think.

Can you tell if this needs a ballast to work? - http://www.amazon.com/Socket-Cord-Vertical-Hanging-Light/dp/B003FL3MBK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1382876836&sr=8-6&keywords=light+socket+extension+cord

I was about to buy on then checked the reviews out and I'm second guessing it now.

Would this socket and a ballast be the only thing I need to run an HPS light? - http://www.amazon.com/All-System-Cord-Set-Lamps/dp/B0046DD0EK/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1382883827&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=Mogul+based+extension+cord

You don't need a ballast to light cfl bulbs, they have the ballast built into them, unless they are the cfl bulbs with the 2 or 4 pin type bulbs. Any cfl that goes to a standard light socket will work. And always stay inside the electric ratings for fixtures! That mogul socket and cord needs a ballast to light any HID lighting.

the HD etc ceramic sockets will do fine up to like 650+ watts. Theyre ceramic specifically to deal with the heat generated by all th ejuice running inside of them.

If you have a lowes near you they have some really nice sockets rated for outdoor wet use, completely metal. They have a rating on them for 150W. For the hell of it I opened one up, and it had a really nice ceramic socket made by GE and stamped with 550W rating I believe. And the rest of the part was completely metal, so no reason why the whole thing couldn't be rated higher. No idea how they rate these things.
