im just starting to build my hydro system this is my first time growin so i just wanted to know if i should buy a

MICRO MINI 100WATT HPS SYSTEM
"
Uses only 100 watt of power - but delivers the high output that H.I.D. lights provide...
MH = 9,000 lumens / HPS = 9,500 lumens
(Note: as a reference point - a 100 watt incandescent lamp emits 1260 lumens) "

or

"NEW WAVE T-5 4 BULB 2-FOOT
High output lamps have an extremely high lumen per watt rating 5000 lumens per lamp 54 watts=92.59 lumens/watt.
*Reference Point: an F40 cool white lamp: 1260 lumens per lamp 440 watts =31.5 lumens/watt
The TEK-LIGHT(tm)'s exclusive 9-bend reflector is made of German 95% reflective aluminum. Light output is 300% higher in our reflector vs. a lamp with no reflector. "

they both the same price and im under a low budget right now

id go with hps, even if its only 100watts..but you seriously need something more powerful if you want both quantity & quality. ive smoked CFL weed before and its whispy and the high isnt that great. although i dont know much about those T5's so i cant really state a solid opinion one way or the other, but i fully support HPS.

i just found this ones in home depot

Lithonia Lighting 50 Watt Bronze High Pressure Sodium Floodlight for about the same price as the 100 watts i could get 3 hps with 50 watts and some cfls

Are you in Veg or flower? How big is your space? How many plants do you want to grow? Need more info. If your in veg a metal halide would be better than either. But since you are on a budget you should probably go with flourescent as they are way cheaper.

if your choosing between the 100 watt hps and the 260 watts of t5,s i would go for the t5,s unless your getting a bigger hps the t5,s will probably outperform the 100 watt hps.

i think that 100 watter hps would give you some solid buds, if you think about it, its the same abmount of power as the longer 4 foot wid flos but packed into one bulb.
Go with the the light with the that packs the punch.

i agree with Knowm about hps is good over 400. but hps is good all the time. i would use that 100 hps and some cfls or t-5s. remember you cant have to much light, only to much heat from the light. the more light the more buds u get and the better the quality. as i go by, you go cheap, u grow cheap

Be careful buying those lights at home depot-I was tempted by the price too, but in my humble opinion, a better quality light is well worth the price. The most important thing is the light spectrum the light provides-more blue for veg, more red for flower, but a mix of both is best. Those lights at the home depot don't have balanced light spectrums that your plants need. Don't go cheap-you'll be sorry. I'd recommend the hortilux brand.

I have an 100w HPS bulb...all i need is a ballast, Home Depot doesnt sell it i checked. I'm gonna be using the 100w in a storage box. Not sure if it will melt the plastic. Also i will be growing a maximum of two plants. Now what will i do when the plant gets to flowering? I really dont know and these are questions you have to ask yourself. I suppose i will do my best to keep it short and bushy...i have very limited space so i can only afford to devote this single box for now.

exactly, its all about how much you wanna spend - or how good a deal you get. atleast 400watts for some truly dank buds, and hps would be best for flowering while mh is best for veg - which is why a switchable ballast w/ atleast a 400watt would make your plants very happy.

chronicle is right. i use a 250w mh to veg my plants and 2 600 watt hps's to flower them. i go by: you go cheap, you grow cheap.
