how many watts do you have goin for your 30 bulbs?

So if i had either 250watts of CFLs OR a 250 watt HPS bulb, which would put off more heat?
The CFLs, by far.

Let's take a look shall we:

A typical 23w CFL will output ~1800 initial lumens:
1800/23 = 78 lumens per watt
A typical 250w HPS will output ~29000 initial lumens:
29000/250 = 116 lumens per watt

Clearly, a 250w HPS is 49% more efficient at producing light than 23w CFLs are. On top of this, when you take into account that with a 250w HPS you can mount the ballast outside your growroom, you reduce you heat output even further.

Without a doubt. The 250w HPS is the better choice by far.

The HPS will be hotter in 2 minutes then the CFL will get over the whole day and at the height you have to put the HPS you lose 1/3 of those lumens so the useable light is actually about the same
