CFL vs. HPS

About to start a grow trying to decide whether to go with 12 23 watt Cfls for about $40 or 1000 watt HPS for about $150. My cash flow is spotty so that's why i can't decide. Please any feedback will really clear my thoughts.

cfl vs hps is not really much of a debate for that one ...

quite a big difference between ~240W of CFL and 1000W of HPS...

The CFL's can grow good weed but you got to keep it small the 1000 is four times more power and you can grow big it is all in how you want run it.
I'd do both CFL's for veg 1000 watt for flower now your good to go buy the CFL's use them for veg then in a month or more buy your 1000 watt for flower

hps for sure but then you need to deal with the heat.

spotty cash flow tends to favor cfl's, very cheap way to start
they can produce very good weed, and can work good in small setups, costs are more predictable

What size space are you working with?

that many cfl's can produce alot of heat. I was up to 400 actual watts in a small closet grow..I had to buy a small bathroom exhaust fan with a dryer hose blowing out thru a hole into anther room.. and then make another hole in the wall with a fan blowing in fresh air to keep my temps at 85.
It took awhile to figure out but on my 1st grow I got 2oz wet(I will let ya know what it weighed when it drys)

oh and my electric bill only jump'd maybe 30 a month (I got plants in 24/0veg also)

heat is burning watts. 1000 watts vs 1000 watts is near the same amount of heat ....

What's better
150w hps or 336w cfls.
And what's cheaper?

I'm going to use 2 rubbermaids stacked on top of each other. They're about 4 ft tall

I don't know if i was clear I was going to use the 100w equivalent CFLs.

equivalent doesn't count
Only real watts count.

cfl all the way then imho. 1000 watt hps will not work well in that plastic space. Good Luck! and do lots of research, remember odor control is paramount.

Always go big to grow big with lights and air handling equipment.

only use Cfls, grow some super smoke but get a low yeild, average 1.5 once per. Growing MOB and hite Widow
