in the longrun I would have to say LED grow lights..

They cost a pretty penny

But you also dont have the need for fans, airconditioners, bulbs or ballasts ect..

Cfls are pretty good. Make sure you get what you need the first time you buy them. I had 2 15w 2700k tubes.(not going to work) then a couple of 32w. Finally put 2 48w cfls in there and they work fine for vegging. Only like 5 bucks each. You'll want to be aware of light spectrum and "actual" watts.2700 is supposed to be good for flower but not veg. You get different opinions here about it. Heat is no issue as long as your plant is not touching the light all night. It burned mine pretty good last night. Besides that its loving it.

He said effective, this leaves LEDs out.
How do you figure LED lights are not effective Bonzi Lighthouse ??

Is this because you have never grown anything with them??

Lets hear you explain to me and the rest of RIU how LED grow lights are innefective??

I personally think that LED lights are quite possibly the most effective cost effecient lights in the long run.

I would like you to show me a grow light that will last for 10+ years running 24/7/365

Theses plants dont look too small to me.. just because the LED lights are called stealth LED lights doesn't mean that you can only grow small plants..

It is named stealth because there is virtually no power consumption. IE; making it STEALTH

I did my first grow on CFLs and was happy with the performance for something inexpensive. I've since gone HPS for flower and use T5 HO flouro lights for veg but I took 2 clones I bought, vegged for only 8 days and LST'd the kids during veg (used a mix of 5000k and 6500K bulbs)and then changed the bulbs to a mix of 2700K-3500K color temp ones and flowered them and I got 2 1/4 oz off the two plants. That was my first ever grow and I nute burned them pretty bad at one point so I was pleased with the result.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to grow. I think I only spent about $150 to build my first cabinet which included wood materials, fans, pots, soil, a handful of clamplights and a grip of CFLs from Home Depot. It only needs to get as expensive as you're willing to let it. Bigger plants or more plants means more money for your setup.

Hope we are helping more than hurting here. Best of luck to ya.

What are the cheapest yet effective lightbulbs for indoor growin?:leaf:
For all the lookin and price comparing and for there effectiveness,, that I did, CFL's such as plug and grow 250watts, avaible in both light spectrums, so you need two bulds with cfl's, one for the veg stage and one for flowering, blue/white then red.
That mean if your shipping to you and each buld is 40 it may work out at the same as other light but i still think it would be cheaper as you need a ballest. The cfl's plug and grow make are compact but elongated so are abit like long fluro tubes,,(im sure google envirogrow, evriolites, plug and grow to see what i mean),
You dont need ballest with cfls, and plug and grow , envriolites, envirogrow(they sell both) use a simple e40 screw socket which you can buy cheap of ebay if you want to make your own cable, or you can buy a shade with the wire built in or just the wire which hangs and just plugs into a socket or timer(in the wall/or extention cable). They also produce little to no heat.
I spent 100 uk pounds and got 2 bulds, 250watts, in 2700k and 6300k,(that roughly spectrum, id have to look on the box.)lasting about 8,000hrs,,it came with free reflector. shipping was 15 pounds.
Hope that informs you abit ,

They are roughly $1000 up to $5000 for the real STEALTH LED grow lights.
Although you can buy a cheap version that probably will work 1/16th as decent from ebay for roughly $100.

Its alot better to be using the 250watt ,unless you have one plant. Then that is more than enough, and will cost f all to run.
:leaf: That my exp. anyway. the 250 will be slighty longer and wider than that 55 watt, which may not sound important but if you growing more than one pant the light produce isnt in a small ball but in a strip. I dont think I've explained that very well to make it sound important. Urrrr, if light comes out from these two lines, ______ or [__], ((just imagine this line is connect to them brackets to form a wide u shape,))
they are the same lenght but because the first line is flat , it spreads the light further so a plant at the right hand and left hand end of the first line is better off..
HOWEVER, the predict life is in the 55 watter corner!!!!!!!!!!
, as its 2000hrs longer.10,000 apparent hours compared to 8,000 apparent hours.
I use that 250watt in the link you are responding too,, I surpose it depends on your space and how much cash you want to spend.
Take it easy..

I dont think he had said that they were not good, the question was cheap and effective. The CFL's are far better for those requirements. I grew my first grow under 8 of those tube bulbs and had wonderful buds, THIS is the most effective cheapest way of growing, except outdoors in northern cali.
