China-rare earth metal holdout

Once again china closes thier grip just a bit more, now threatening to holdout/ban exports of their rare earth metals. Sparked by some capturing of a chinese sailor by japanese coastguard (and gradual restrictions over time). According to some articles china owns 95% of rare earthmetals and is one of the only places that successfully mines the earth metals. The us has limited ammounts but they say its too risky to mine. Supposidly China has some master plan worked out to boost toyota production in china and india (poss australia?) bc the rare earth meatals are essential to the electric motors in the hybrids. rare earth metals are also used in; solar pannels, wind turbines, cell phones, hd tvs, sattelites, magnets, computers, guided missiles and high tech weapons etc... Anyone else hear of this/opinions?

oh wait toyota is is japanese so i guess china stoped shipping to japan so toyota is in risk of failing but ive herd they want to ban exports to all countries.

Yup if their going to go socialist on us anyways the one positive would be if they started banning imports or at least put huge tarrifts and taxes on imports so that we will buy American - It would be great if they made us buy products made in America buy Americans from American meterials and resources...unfortunatly they wont do this because it would require a lot of job creation and create a middle class-exactly what they've been working to destroy for years

We already ban many Chinese imports, where have you all been? Poultry, tires, Honey, Firearms(Norinco), Seafood and many others. Its not like China is REQUIRED to export its rare earth metals, if China is smart they will horde it all and sell it when it is very high priced and then hold a monopoly on it. Not unlike American Oil companies holding out in the past.
