Chopped down a male plant today, made some hash.

Hey, I'm actually a first time grower too, but I know stuff about cultivating beforehand so I dunno if that counts. I actually killed one of my males too, but I saved one just to see how it'll turn out. Good thing I did, lol

knowing how to make hash is a skill second only to knowing how to grow IMO. I love resin and sometimes I secretly hope a couple of plants get the rot so i can whizz some up - I use ice cubes and water in the blender, it makes the trichs more brittle.

don't tell me to leave your thread.. cmon man..

but seriously.. unless you went through the whole plant and removed every pollen sack on every branch, there has to be some pollen in your hash. is it brittle? if so, it must have a fair amount of pollen/plant matter. too much agitation can break off small pieces of plant matter to fit through screens and meet up with your hash. 4.5 grams of hash is believable, especialy if it was an outdoor plant.. but knowing male plants produce up to 4% thc TOPS, i am certain your hash is not high quality or average.. but some low grade hash is believable.

i have never done the blender method only butane and bubble bags. so idk how much agitation you give the plant to break off the trichomes. but if the blender method is better than bubble bags imma kick myself for buying these lol..

I always save my males for hash, there are four 6' males I chopped in the freezer right now waiting for me to get around to processing them.

Pollen floats guys, it won't make it into his hash at least not much of it and the thc content is fine as long as you get rid of all the plant material and just get the trichomes.

Most on this site are growing small plants though it seems and in that case it wont give enough hash to be worth it but trees, you bet.

Urmm im a bit apprehensive about believing this. You got any pics of male plants with trichs on em?

dpjones, I would provide pics of the male with trichomes but I can't... It's dead lol. I checked the plant with a magnifer though; I definately saw plenty of trichomes on the unopened male pods. Emmpey, I did that as well, I used a lot of ice with the blender, it helped alot, making all of the plant matter rise and the trichomes settle on the bottom. DontDoDrugs, I didn't mean to come off as an asshole but when I see replies that implies that I'm a dumbass, I don't take it too lightly. 4 percent? Where do you get your information, lol. Something such as that can't be measured so easily. It really depends on the genetics and the mass of the plant, really. I didn't use any screening (no grinding) at all, I used the blender method on hashmaking, all the ice I used should be sufficient enough to make all of the plant matter to float while since the trichomes are denser than watter, they sink to the bottom. At first, I was considering bubble bags but I already have enough DIY stuff for the blender method such as a gold coffee filter and a $500 blender that I don't think I should any spend money on bubble bags. Oregonmeds, thanks for your input, I also think that most of the pollen wouldn't make it through as I filtered numerous times with a very high grade filter and I waited 30 - 40 minutes in between for the trichomes to settle at the bottom of the pot before I pour out the plant matter liquid, also considering how much ice I blended in as well...

Dude, male marijuana does produce thc. If you knew anything about cultivating you would know that already. The thing is that it only produces a little amount of thc. And no DontDoDrugs, its not pollen. If you two are here just to bash me in my thread, please leave. Yb1981, I used the blender method to extract the thc. Search on google to find out details about that. I tested the hash today through a bong with ice water. The smoke is all right, a little harsher than my dro and yes, it does get me high. Don't listen to people saying "oh males are completely useless" and or whatnot. The reason why most people choose to remove their males is (for the most obvious reason) to not pollinate their females, and also it is seen as a waste of time, as making hash from a male doesn't provide that much hash for a yield.
glad to see that someone else actually does some research:leaf:

I guess it makes sense that this is a common misconception. I mean not many people go to the effort of growing and harvesting a male. Normally as soon as balls pop up it gets the hack. Also if you are growing females and don't want seeds its the best thing to do.

They often don't show until you start flowering. This last crop pissed me off since it wouldn't even preflower before tree size, none of them would. Given the choice nobody would waste the time and resources to grow males over females unless they're breeding and it's not like 4 males in the freezer are as good as gold and I'm itching to extract hash from them, but at the same time no reason to throw them out without harvesting it.

Set aside for a rainy day.

I meant when people flower plants with unknown sex and then the balls appear.

I dont know why people say throw out the males. I save them up and make hash out of them. I looked at their leaves and they have a ton of crystals on them, not as much as female but still some. I made hash out of mine and it got me high so no one can tell me u cant.

great idea. so at what point are the males ready to be made into hash?

You should harvest the male before any of its pollen sacks open, at that point its best to make hash of it. Cyproz, I know, I saw crystals on mine as well so I figured whatever, I'll make hash out of this and it turned out all right.
