Chris' 1st "Attempt" At Outdoor Growing

Ok. Sooooo obviously, the title sais it all. This will be my VERY 1st attempt at growing outdoors. i have some basic knowledge on what to do, but would appreciate any other hints/tips/advice/secrets... ANY help will be greatly appreciated. +Rep for good help. =)

I am working on my 3rd indoor grow at the moment. My newest one is in my signature. Its 1 Nirvana White Widow.. and 1 Mystery Seed. They're under about 410 watts of CFL's.

My previous grow was just 1 Nirvana White Widow. I vegged her for 3 weeks (from seed) and used 310 watts of CFL's, and I pulled 3.15 ounces DRY from her! I know thats a bit hard to believe... but here's my journal for proof. =) It will be on page 69, which has the Harvest Pics on it.

https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/288470-nirvanas-feminized-white-widow-cfl-69.html

Ok. Now.. back to the outdoors. Sooo yea, I live in Southern New England... Sooo I am not blessed with the best growing season, or w.e. u wanna call it. New England weather sucks, but from what I understand, as long as there's no frost.. your ok.

Well, currently... I JUST started germinating the seeds.. Soooo it will take a while for things to get under way. But I am hoping to use the time before my journal gets under way with pics and updates, to try to learn a little more about exactly what I should be doing to have a successful outdoor grow.

I plan on vegging indoors for 2-3 weeks, and then bringing them outside. I am not growing in my backyard, since my yard is very open, and plenty of people could see if they'd like, and my neighbors suck! So I am going to have to walk about 5 minutes down my street, and to the left and the right... there are PowerLines, that have an almost never-ending patch of woods.

There are alot of paths, and people do often walk through there, one side more than the other, so I already know which side to plant on. There are some paths that people ride Quads on too, so I will have to be careful about that. I plan on waking a decent distance into the woods, and finding an area that is somewhat hidden, but gets some sunlight, and has a lot of other plants/bushes/trees growing, and planting my plants right in the middle of them. I will cut down a bush or tree if I must.

I plan on digging a pretty big/deep hole. I would like to dig as deep down as possible, and filling it with Miracle Grow Moisture Control "GARDENING" soil. This mixture already has nutes in it. I also have some time release plant food I will be mixing in with the garden soil.

My mother is going to come with me when I go to set it all up, so that it looks a little less suspicious if it's me and my mom walking into the woods.. instead of just some 21 year old kid walking in the woods. I am going to keep the plants some-what close together... but not too close.

Ok, well I think that's all the info I can think of. lol. Sooo again, any help would be great!! Feel free to post pictures of your own grows, or other people grows. I don't mind at all.

Well Thanks in advance to everyone. I'm hoping this journal gets as popular as my Indoor Journal's get. =)

Ok here is the run down! I vegg for 2-3 weeks indoors and them move to outdoors. I like to put plant outside around July Because I like to keep my plants small and because were I grow if they get too big people might see them. But if you have a nice safe place and height is not an issue Than put your plants out earlier any time after May 16, ( we got a frost two years ago on may 16th and it killed some of my plants) I prefer to dig a hole and I add a soil buffer called Bumper crop it cost $12 for a big bag! You can use your Miracle Grow but I've had only bad experiences with it so I will not recommend it. The Bumper Crop soil buffer is filled with Composted barn manure , Peat moss, Aged bark, and crushed shell fish and it is pd adjusted. Good for mixing with existing soils!
Sometime in October they will be finished . I put my plants out in July so they don't have much time left to grow tall. Usually they get about 2 feet when they are done and I get about 1/2oz - 1oz per plant .. I don't really remember what month they start to flower in I think late August early September, and they Finnish in mid to late October hope this helps lol This year I will keep an outdoor journal too so next year we will know exactly what & when to do .

Awesome!! Thanks man! that was exactly what I was looking for! =) +Rep if I can. lol. but yeaaa, i dont even know exactly where im gonna plant them yet. lol. I know like WHERE im gonna plant them.. but i havent done any exploring yet.. soo i dont have an exact spot yet.. bu tlike i said.. theres woods to either side.. well... its more of like an big open field.... maybe like 50-75 ft wide (im really bad at guessing with ft. lol) and theres woods on either side... sooo im still debating wether i should plant it in the big field part (would probly get better light.. but be easier to spot) or plant it in the woods... (would be hidden better.. but probly get less light)..

i will go out searchin prbably sometime tomorrow. =D im excited to start this grow!! My seed is germinated.. adn is in some soil now. =) i will bring my camera with me wen i go to look for a spot.. adn take a few pics.. once i find a spot I like... if i find a spot i like tomorrow. wish me luck!!

Outdoor growing is so much fun! And very rewarding. NO more worrying about height and with most strains a higher yield becuae of the amounts of light they will recieve from the good'ole sun. I personally would scrap the miracle grow soil though. Most people say it may burn your babies if you put them in it when they are very small. I like mixing organic potting mix with the soil that is already at my site.

I dig a hole a little smaller in 2 feet across in bout 2 feet down and put it all on a 10x15 tarp. I usually toss out bout 40% of the soil and replace it with the organic potting mix, then i add 2 big handfulls of perlite then 2 more of vermiculite. I big ole hand full of blood meal and a hand full of garden lime. This mix always gives me good results.

If you use the tarp method then mixing it all together is a breeze, Spread the soil out on the tarp just toss all those products listed above ontop of the soil in layers and pull the edges toward the center and it will mix itself. You can either use it like that or spread it out again and just pull the corners towards the center and you now have a very nice mix. Now put the mix in the hole and water really good. It activates all the nutriences in the mix. And within a few days you have a perfect medium for the babies ready to be placed.

Hope that helped Goodluck

o wow really!!?? u started them right in the ground? and they sprouted...? no shit. thats cool. hmm. maybe I should try that?/ I got a SHITLOAD of bagseeds.. not from anything good tho.. just mids.. but from what i've heard.. if u grow mids.. adn get rid of all the amles.. and let the mids become sensimielia (no seeds) it will be very very good weed.. A LOT better than the buds the seeds were in.

thats crazy tho that they sprouted from the ground! and im surprised too with the weather we've been having!!.. oo yea.. lol. durrr.. i 4got ur not from the New England area... are you?? lol. well heyy.. at least they're growing.. better slow.. than not at all. =)

well.. now that I know you actually got some to sprout from the dirt.. since i have like 20 bagseeds.. i might just germ like 5-10.. and wait for them to get a nice long taproot.. and then bring them outside and plant them all over the place.. adn see what they do. =) might as well.. it'll be better to have 1 WW and like 5 other decent plants growing.. then only 1 WW.

even if the weeds not that great.. its still weed.. and if anything.. i can smoke the white widow.. and give the Mids away.. well.. sell it. lol.

yeaa, it sounds very very fun!! i never thought about it before.. just assumed growing indoors was better and more fun. and honestly... i didnt think u could even grow weed outdoors where I live.. but my friend W-Scott lives like 30 min. from me and has been growing outdoors for like 4 yrs now.. and had no problems. =)

And yeaaa, it'll be nice not having to worry about height and size or smell either. =) Chances are tho... that once the buds start coming.. adn look even a little bit finished.. i will chop them down.. because I dont trust ppl around here.. alotta people around here are greedy and grimy.. adn will cut my plants down without thinking twice... soo once they are close enough to harvest.. i will cut them down.. i mihgt leave like 1 or 2... and jsut see if any1 takes it. and that way.. I'll know if my spot is safe or not.

Hmmm. I used MG soil all through my last 2 indoor grows.. adn had AMAZING results with it..? and i even started them in it. (not thinking about the pant food already in it) I just dont give the plant any nutes during veg.. adn it seems to be fine.

I dig a hole a little smaller in 2 feet across in bout 2 feet down and put it all on a 10x15 tarp. Hmmm.. thats a good idea actually.. (the tarp idea) I mnight just do that. cuz I do have a big tarp in my backyard I could bring with me.. and i will mix the reg. dirt adn the MG soil together.. adn if i can gather up some money to get some blood meal and vermiculite and garden lime. =) cuz im sure that would help out alot.

If you use the tarp method then mixing it all together is a breeze, Spread the soil out on the tarp just toss all those products listed above ontop of the soil in layers and pull the edges toward the center and it will mix itself. Yeaa im deff gonna try that out.. i didnt even think about HOW i was gonna mix the soil. lol. yeaa if i can get up some money... then i will deff do that with the extra stuff.. if not.. ill hae to jsut use the MG soil.. adn the dirt adn mix it up like that.

I do have some MG all purpose Plant food.. theyre lil green pebble looking things.. adn they're time released.. soo maybe if i cant get teh other stuff... i'll throw sum of that in the mix? =)

Hope that helped Goodluck

Yes.. all of that info helped ALOT!! Thank You VERY VERY VERY much! Now I have a great and easy method to mixing the soil... and know what to mix in if I can get sum money to get the nutes i need.

Thank you again! +Rep for sure!! wish I could rep u more than once!. lol. but i cant.. if any1 else wants to give him sum rep.. for me.. i will rep them

I would use compost and the soil that is there, also vermiculite, then mulch around to keep weeds out. Thats just a little tip.

Also water can also be a issue in NE, we sometimes get a shitload, just rain forever, then we can get droughts for no reason.
Idk what to do for a lot of rain, cus too much can be bad i think, but for droughts? I know that you should NOT water it everyday, the soil should be dry about 4 or 5 inches down into the ground, then it'll be ready for watering. I think not over watering will help the roots spread to find more water, which is good for the plants.

alllright. thanks for the tip. =) yeaaa im gonna have to look into gettin sum vermiculite.. cuz every1 keeps sayin im gonna need that. and i might have sum mulch in my back yard.. i could use some of that to keep the weeds out.. didnt even think of that. =)

and yeaaaaaa, New England weather can be crazy!! idk wat i would do for over watering either.... only thing i can think of is maybe go down there with like... a small piece(s) of tarp.. adn put it right under the plant... on the ground.. and put a few rocks over it.. and kinda hope that the tarp will cover the top of the soil.. adn keep at least SOME of the water from gettig to the roots.. it cant make it any worse thats for sure.. adn yeaa, obviously during a drought, i can just go water it. =) i still have a water meter thing that sais how moist/dry the soil is.. soooo i can just bring that with me weneva i go and check it that way.

and yeaa, that does help the root system.. cuz like u said.. it has to search for water.. thats why they say not to over water ur indoor plants as well.. cuz the roots will never grow.

thanks for the tips man.. and thanks every1 else so far too. cant wait to get these plants into the soil!! hopefully i can get the WW outside in 2 weeks.. 3 at the most.. but she is a fast grower.. soo 2 weeks might be enough.. and the purple power will obviously take a bit longer... but hopefully I'll have it out there in like 3 weeks maybe?/ I'll deff have pics up.

I think 2morrow (since it will be a lil warmer) im gonna go down into the woods and try to find a spot to plant them... might germinate a few bag seeds... and just stick them in the ground.. and see what happens.. just for the hell of it.. adn if they grow.. almost use them as a test to see if any1 messes with them..

Thats a good idae for limiting the amount of water if we are getting drenched.
Water meter? Sick haha
I've heard random bag weed can turn out good if you do it right, sometimes monstrous yields of ok shit, sometimes pretty good stuff if you do it right. I'm definetly getting some seedy weed this fall and saving it to experiment with, good idea.

lol. yeaa, its the only thing i could think of.. but yeaa, now that i think of it.. if u take the time.. you could cut a perfect circle out of the tarp material.. and cut a hole in the middle of that.. and then just hold it above your plant.. and let the plant go through the middle of the hole.. until the tarp reaches the dirt.... and thats it. =)

or you could just cut like 4 rectangular strips and use that to cover the bottom of the plant. =)

and yeaa, if you go to walmart.. they have a lil cheap meter thing u stick in the ground to check the moisture.. and the further u put it down.. the further it checks.. adn it also has a switch to check the PH level.. and another switch to check the amount of light its getting.

my camera is charging. and my lights r out.. soo i cant take a pic of it. but i just searched google.. adn found a pic of it.

Moisture_Light_PH_Meter_Hydroponics_Soil_Analyzer.jpg

and yeaa, i guess cuz usually.. bagweed is grown in like... mexico or wherever.. and its jsut grown in gigantic fields.. and nobody really takes care of them at all.. soo they dont get the right nutes.. or just attention in general.

and if u kill off any males.. and let the bagweed grow without seeds.. it makes it soo much better.. cuz all the seed pods fill up with resin.. =) Mmmm.. and the plant puts all its energy into making THC.. instead of making seeds.

Thats very interesting, what strain have you done this with?
I might try that next summer, very interesting. It isn't to 24 hour it? hmm i thought it really needed the dark to grow, or is that just flowering?

heyy watsup man. yeaa, well i made a mistake.. it wasnt walmart i bought it at.. it was home depot.. adn i forgot how much it was. soo i went and looked it up for ya. heres the link.. it was $8

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xh3/R-100325514/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

and damn.. 2-4 ounces is pretty good! see i wouldnt be able to grow them to 2 ft tho.. =/ cuz i have to be sneaky.. lol. im plantin them out in the middle of the woods.. adn i have to walk do my st for like 4-5 min. to get there.. adn i think ppl will be a little suspicious if i walk down the st. into the woods with a 2st marijuana plant.. and then walk bak out the woods without it... lmao.

but yeaa man u should deff make a thread on how you do yours.. i would check it out.. and im sure many other people would..

and na u dont gotta apologize for rambling on. lol. i WANT people too! i need all the help i can get.. i;ve never ever done this before. lol.

thanks for the tips tho. =)

yeaa i hope my WW of purple power can put out 2-4 ounces! and ehh.. as far as teh 24 hour light.. for the first 2 weeks or so.. its ok to use 24 hour lighting (i did that my 1st grow).. but eventually u need to give it some darkness.. cuz eventually everything needs a break.. during the light..the leaves and buds grow.. and when the lights are out.. thats when the roots do their growing.. soo i think in the begining.. u can leave the lights on 24 hours to help make the plants bigger.. and then u need to give it some darkness soo the roots can support the plant.
