Christmas light growing???

Seriously, though, why haven't any of the LED grow light makers taken to producing strings of LED grow lights? You can wrap them right around the plant! It's lighting AND a disguise, all in one handy product! Imagine how many people would put up their "christmas tree" in July, and another in January! It would be christmas all year long at my house. "Taking down the christmas tree" would no longer require bungee cords and a ride to the dump, and would be looked forward to rather than dreaded. Best of all, it helps the environment! No more douglas firs to the slaughter! "Save the trees, use LEDs!"

They'd fucking FLY off the shelves! Man, I'm going to be a millionaire.

why dont u go look at my day 23 flowering with 3 CFLS it beats pretty much and 400 w hps grow out there i can grow just as good as people with hps with my CFL's so i think it will work
HA.

Clearly you know more about growing marijuana than everyone here, so enlighten us with your wisdom. How many ounces did you get from your 3 cfls? Not grams, OUNCES. What nutrients did you use? Soil or hydro?

You should just be going to school, reading books, and playing outside like a normal kid and not be a pretentious dick who claims to know everything about growing weed. Cool?

Do you know what pretentious means? Go look it up on dictionary.com and that describes your posts in this thread.

Doesn't there come a point when you realize maybe you should spend your $$$ on a few more cfl's and actually grow something worth taking pics of? Go buy christmas lights and build a new box and waste some seeds if you really want, or invest that in something that will grow you some good buds...LIKE A 400W HPS.

my CFL's work fine never said they woud work fine for a large grow now did i NO i simply said they work perfect and can produce the same dense thick and tasty buds a hps can i never said how much it could produce so thats where u all need to read my statements again

also i never said i knew everything about growing weed either yall are just bein dicks i have done nothing wrong and offended no one ya'll are offending me by tellin me i cant do it

everyone was sayin a shot glass grow wouldnt work cause it would get root bound but ook at wat the people did they did grow it and they did yeild 7 grams off a shot glass plant

so like i said i will try this grow as an experiment and i thank u all for your support no really i do have a nice day

what you did say is that your 3 cfls do the same job as a 400w hps...which is complete hoodoo. your 3 cfl's might grow a decent plant, but my 400w hps produce a dozen decent plants at a time. there is no comparison.

if that was a 400w hps grow you would have gotten just over .1 grams per watt.

i would kill myself if i could only grow .1g/watt

I'm sorry dude, I really didn't mean to bust your balls like that. But you can't compare 3 cfl's to a 400w hps. Period. I hate hearing outrageous claims about the same yield and dankness...it just simply isn't true.

Does that mean you can't grow dank nugs with 3 cfl's...no, of course not, but a 400 will grow more, bigger, danker nugs. Which in the end is what we're going for, right?

So you're entitled to do whatever you want and try whatever experiments you want. After all, every good idea has to start somewhere. I apologize for being a dick...I totally was. Good luck with your christmas lights...

HPS is a more efficient light source as well. 400 watts of HPS is going to put out more light than 400 watts of cfl. CFL's are great for personal grows of one or two plants in a small grow cab or pc case or something like that, but if you have 10 plants or something you are going to be flushing your money down the toilet in terms of efficiency with cfl's. Sorry, but I've got to agree with Jerry Garcia on this one.

like i said with my last post i agree with more plants yes an hps would be more effective but i have one plant at a time which is why im saying wat im saying

and its alright jery thanks i will post another thread once its started to grow

supplementally, sure, go for it. it's not going to draw a lot of power to pay for so who cares? but if you are planning on trying to grow soley with christmas lights i think you need to need to put down the bong. for fun i plugged in some led christmas lights from last year and put my light meter up to one of the bulbs. it registered way lower than a 23 watt cfl from 5 inches away. i bunched them up so i could measure the cumulative light from several bulbs and tried again with identical results. big waste of time. however if you were to run 2 strings of them spread all over the walls it might have supplemental value, but i doubt it. if anything you will probably just reduce the reflectivity of your walls. i see no reason not to try if you really want to know, but i personally wouldn't bother.

got my trip perc on standby =)...led grow pannels are supposed to be pretty effective tho during veg. and flowering but you do have to keep em inches from the plant for them to work correctly. im wondering if theres any difference in the leds used for christmas lights and the leds used for grow pannels... ive been thinking about investing and trying out some led pannels when i came across those articles... and it made me wonder if itd be wiser if i was gonna give leds a run to just rig up something or if im totally missing the point to those grow pannels...

....but on a more fun note, how great would it be if you could just open up your closet and see all youre little baby's decked out in red and blue christmas lights just growing away....id think it was the funniest damn thing ever

say...would a jerry-rig of 900 red/blu xmas lights in the same ratio as the pannels produce drastically different results from a 'company developed' led grow pannel of the same size?

using string lights wont work enough to bother with going through hanging them all...on average most x-mas lights only use 25 watts of power....so if you have a string of 75 lights...your only get 0.33 watt to each light...the power gets evenly distributed to all the lights..so your not getting enough power to the lights...not to mention that they are...unless you get led...they are incandescent light bulbs....your not getting the right light spectrum out of it or enough power...and you want to spend $300-$400 to get enough strings of led to begin make it worth it...then by all means waste your money....x-mas lights are made to be low heat and low watt...not meant to grow plants...not even the led lights...you would need a string of red/blue/white lights to even get the right spectrum...and your still only getting 0.33 watts to each light on average

of course theyd be leds not the inc.s thats totally out of the q...a string of about 100 of them goes for a few dollars on ebay right now tho...and an actual grow light with 168 leds supposedly consumes 5 watts or does it not get spread out over the leds for some reason and is that the difference between the two? and isnt low heat low watt one of the good parts of growing with the led pannels? isnt it lumens and the light being emitted/absorbed that matters for the plant and not the power the light consumes?

Yeah, growing with incandescent xmas lights would just be silly. LEDs on the other hand, might just be a waste of time. Im intrigued none the less. If people didnt experiment then nothing new would ever come out. Good luck dude.

yes....but power equals lumens...thats why we get the higher wattaged bulbs....they put out the most lumens.string lights simple do not have enough power to cover any area 1/2 inch away from them or even less then that.they are not putting out enough power/lumens/spectrum any way you want you word it
