...just a thought I had while reading this thread. To make peace with this section of the forum I initially had to look past the sly remarks, etc, that come with a lot of the posts. Fairy Tales, and all that.

Condescension is when you thoughtlessly regard others as being beneath you, of lower importance, and you convey this attitude while communicating with them. In this case the suggestion is that someone's value for corroboration is not important. That anyone who hears the story of Christmas should somehow be compelled to accept it based on plot alone, and that anyone who retains doubt of the existence (and presumably divinity) of Jesus is suffering and deserving of pity. It is thoughtless because it makes no attempt to understand the objecting party, what ever the objection may be.

...cool, I agree that mainstream christians see the hardened heart idea as being secular. But then, we all point fingers when we don't want to see the truth in ourselves. The inner teaching of the soft heart comes down to the idea of Mary. Some Protestants keep her out of the picture and war some more *shrugs* Even my 'catholicity' is frowned upon by the hardcore christians. That sucks. We're closer to the earth than they are (through Mary), and they think they're 'grounded'.
...to the bolded, I think we see that a lot of that in here. Sometimes I think it is unfortunate. Maybe levels of experience play a big role - tends to make for a greater repertoire of possible (more beneficial) responses to "stimuli"
