exactly what T said ^^

a jewelers 30x loop is the way to go, @$10 online w/shipping. just remember with the LEDs, to add 1-3 weeks in finishing time to what is normally recommended. my guess is that they will go through a 2nd burst of growth in very soon, before being truly finished. trichs start out clear, turn milky, and then amber as they degrade. harvesting early with more clear/milky will give you more of a cerebral up high (even with heavy indicas), whereas harvesting with more milky/amber is the norm, and taking down with heavy amber will give you more of a sedative/body high (since the THC has been degrading into CBD/CBN/other sub compounds). kind of interesting how you can get totally different effects from the same plant, just by harvesting at different times.

for the bleached bud, just move that light up @4-6". the bud itself might die and cause mold issues later, so if it starts turning brown and dying, just cut it off

nice work bro.

Whoa, the plant that is evolving to animal by growing a brain. Looks fucking awesome. You will need some jars, wally world has mason jars in their canning section, for curing after drying for a few days. I use Fiskars snips for trimming, about 10 bucks on Amazon, but I'm still a novice and trimming seems to be a lot more work than it should be, so someone else will probably have a better idea. I use a 30X scope with a little tiny eyepiece that sucks to use. The preferred method would be either a macro lens for a decent camera or a one of those USB cameras that are sold as microscopes, Intel and Celestron if I remember right make them, but you will need the laptop or netbook to use. Or the loupe suggested by EC, which I may just pick up. Nice first grow!

Thanks guys. I had this comment pop up in my journal. I dunno.... but I like my results. Any comments?

I'm not knocking your grow, just don't under (stand?) the mix of Dyna Grow with Organic type teas. The salts in the dyna grow are killing the micro life the teas are supposed to simulate. It seems like a waste of teas, and the fuel smell well that is not organic. Anywise either go chem soup or organic, they don't mix. Just Saying... Peace out..

Oh, here's some shots of he Blumat drippers at work.

There will always be doubters, we could go into the theories behind each method and why i chose to combine them into one, which is extremely successful for me, seems like you are having the same luck.
And the terpenes developed are more realative to the plant, and a fuel smell (only in cannabis) is normal for many strains.
EC was probably right when he said don't mix the tea and dyna-gro together, but obviously they work excellent when used one after the other.

It's Cannabis. You can put it in the ground and it will grow. Poor folks spending almost no money or someone who can fund a 5k watt grow can have success. You can juice it with steroid synthetics in hydro or go organics with soil and bat shit tea. I even saw the post where the guy grew in straw. That's the beauty of weed. You can grow it however you want and however it fits your personality.

salts higher then @450/500ppms will kill more of the microlife (also P or K #s over 10), but there is a balance of feeding the plant what it needs. if the soil isn't built right from the start, or organics added correctly, it can cause a lot of issues and potentially decreases in yields. I like a blend to keep the plants well fed/producing, and while the salts inevitably kill some microbes, that is why I go back and forth between just tea, or just fert. to keep the microbe population high. but the microbes by themselves can't process fast enough and need something added to keep growth high. I can tell you, that a pure organic grow with a Chem strain will still produce a fuely taste/smell, it's genetics, not what it is fed. the best terpene profiles come from pure (and mostly) organic grows IMO - it's all about the plant getting the widest range of possible chemicals (organics are still molecular chemicals at the heart) to utilize.

Agreed ec! This is why I want to try the veganics method, apparently less salt build up! You have to keep a vigorous tea schedule to keep up with the microbes like you said!

I continued to feed tea w/ guano this last week and was going to feed straight tea this week and then go to straight RO water the week after, but seems like these might be close to being done? Reckon I ought to start flushing? The 303Seed guys call for 58 to 70 days.

I bought a 30x jewelers loop, but I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten something stronger cause I really can't make out whether a trichome head is clear, cloudy or amber... I can see them better in the full res pictures if I zoom in than with the scope. I bet 30x is good for normal folks but my vision is the pits.

Also, the big leaves are yellowing off. Since the leaves on the buds are nice and green, I'm thinking this is normal?

You really need to see those thichs, I use a pair of cheap reading glasses that are more powerful than my prescription, but they work well enough with the 30x that they are visible. I picked up a 60x scope and it is too strong and extremely hard to use on the plant, but if you take a leaf off and sit down at a table it can be used, so it doesn't get much use. Maybe your camera lens is best. I used a tripod and set up a macro shot with flash and it did well enough.3-25-2013 close up Pineapple.jpg

Yes the yellowing of the fan leaves is to be expected about now, this shows the buds are taking the nutrients from the plant rather than the soil and shows that your flush is going well. If you were earlier in flower it would mean more of a need for Nitrogen.
As far as the trichs, i have found typically a sugar leaf very near the bud, underneath is easiest to judge the general look of trichs. To see the ambers i look across all of them, looking for differences in color. For the Clear/cloudy, i look at specific trichs and see how easy it is to see through the "head" of the trich.

Thanks guys, I'll pick up some cheaters and give the loupe another try. Will chop off a representative sugar leaf from each and do the looking in a stable spot (I had trouble with the 30x with the plant moving around screwing up focus).

Also, I pulled out a branch on the Indica gal and was astounded to see a mass of milky looking buds hiding in there. Will they be ready at the same time as the rest of the plant? I think this chubby gal is really putting out but I have no frame of reference to know how well. I guess we'll see at chop time.

There is a lot of opinions in the different "ripenesses" of the buds across the same plant, even amongst very experienced growers. My opinion is typically a staggered harvest is not needed, but can teach you a lot about how the product off of same plant can change in a few weeks. I sometimes take a few days to harvest a single plant due to my lack of time to trim, lack of want to trim or laziness, whatever the case may be. I dont typically see a difference in buds harvested a few days apart.

Thanks guys. I fed them their last sip of tea tonight. Straight RO from here on out. Also, clipped a sugar leaf from each plant and set it on a table... made all the difference in the world with the loupe. Definetly no amber to speak of and some of the trichs don't have the bubble head going on yet. Most looked clear instead of cloudy. I thought seriously about getting a wireless scope for the iPad, but decided to save the $400.... looked frickin cool though

Im going to have to build a negative air pressure enclosure around the cab when it comes time for harvest. Just a couple of minutes with the door opened and plucking leaves and such and it smells up the whole house. Kick ass citrus dank stank that I could bask in all day long, but the old lady doesn't seem to share my opinion. :???:

Came home from being out of town, walked in the house and smelled my girls.... faint but definitely the citrus stank. In addition to the 3 LEDs on the canopy, I've been running (6) 2' HO T5s + (2) 23w CFLs in the lower area of the cab - problem is with all that packed in there, I have to run the fan full blast to stay under 81 deg...

The stench has overcome the CAN 9000 filter  . So I yanked the CFLs and turned the fan down some, hopefully that will help it cope. Oh, and popped a new Ona block and set on top of the cab. Damn, them's some smelly gals.

Check your carbon filter to see if the activated charcoal has settled. I ordered a replacement load and when I opened the unit found that the charcoal was down about an inch below the level of the perforated screen, so all the air was being drawn right over and not thru the charcoal. The simple solution is to apply a band or 2 of duct tape, the silver metal stuff, around the top of the perf section to force the air thru the charcoal. I was not able to take pics as I was scrambling to get the filter material replaced. When the room is in bloom it gets pretty intense and my neighbors are so interested in everything, so that day was a mad dash to get it resolved before a stray scent wafted their way. I know I really shouldn't give a fuck, but there is a delicate situation and I need to be stealth to avoid any issues/conflict/drama. Got pics of your final product? And don't forget the smoke report, we need to know how that SG performs with the high CBD %.

Day 43 of flowering. 303 calls for 58 to 70 days. I'm planning to stop the Dyna-gro this week, but continue to feed compost/guano tea every other day this week, then straight RO H2O until harvest. What y'all think?

Got buds growin on top of other buds and a freaky brain looking thing growing out of the sativa phenos main cola. Smells awesome, very fuelly but with an overtone of fermenting citrus... and powerful... have to pre-spray the whole house before cracking the cab lol.

Also, does anyone one have a recommendation for a gadget to watch the trichomes? My camera can't quite pull it off.
Nice man its got a touch of Albino in it
