Citizen discloses that subsidiary falsified product data for LED parts

Well they manufacture in China, it's not a shame in 2018... maybe for a Japanese company yes, considering the numerous conflicts between these 2 countries.

i wonder what the nature of the inspection data was

their chips are pretty consistent on voltage and flux from all my tests.

everyone ive gotten is labeled made in china so im wondering why they were falsifying country of origin

Good question! Plus on their website it's clearly said that they have a factory in China....

I fail to see why what Citizen WATCH has done is relevant to the leds used by some for growing, it's two completely different departments with two completely different policies, and, well, if you were paying $200+ for a wristwatch you would expect it to be made in the country they state it's made in as, in respect to impressions given for such consumer electronic stuff, "Made in Japan" does carry more status than "Made in China" which is why they can charge the premium they do.

A storm in an egg cup, and, in reality, nothing of any real importance unless you're the sort of moonhowler who believes that "social status" is the most important thing in life for it ain't as if it's the labelling of dead horse as "beef" in the EU a couple of years back (which didn't bother me, I don't do ready meals and think horse is lovely meat when cooked right)

Official Statement:

Interesting part:
"To the extent confirmed so far, the products subject to the Improper Activities were primarily switch components, but some LED components etc. were also included. The identified time period of the Improper Activities is primarily the period from around 2011 until 2017. As stated above, the products affected were incorporated into the products of the customer companies, and therefore the users of the end products were not shown the manufacturing locations of the incorporated products. At present there has been no confirmation of quality problems caused by the Improper Activities."
Couldn't care less where my COB is coming from....

My read is it started 2 years ago with incorrect country of origin, but further investigation has led to issues with inspection data, does that mean LM80, but not specified, however it must be something to cause the pres to leave

This is Japanese culture. When they say that the president and executives were dismissed that means that they were fired.

The gist of it is that country of origin and LM80 data were all fraudulent. Country of origin may go beyond the perception of "Japanese Quality" but there may have been some tax incentives behind the claim.

The big issue is the LM80 report. They basically stated that V3 thru V6 used fabricated data. They just made up most of it. So the L90/L70 numbers are fantasy. Sure initial performance looks good but there's no data to back up long-term performance. This is especially important for Energy STAR and DLC qualified products. All those fixtures will need to requalified. DLC for horticulture is right around the corner.

This is especially troublesome because Citizen is a major brand in the industry. It would be interesting to see what methods the regulratory bodies will take knowing this news.

Yes the LM80 is bad, this will create headaches for a lot of Citi customers. Reminds me of another company who pres was sacked by the board for bullshit LM80,no one has a sense of humour about this

clarify please ? Nichia cobs that I use have the 24x19mm with a 14.6 mm les. Does citizen have cobs in the size ?
Nichia is a led maker, ie patent holder, the inventor of the blue led that makes all white leds possible, Citizen are a packaging company that buys all it dies from Nichia, part of its performance is first class dies from Nichia and the ability to pack dense, probably some heritage of watch making in that mix, its unlikely Nichia would not make drop in Citi led products for the obvious reason don't compete with a major customer
Cheers
