Clay Pellets Question

I've done Hydro before, but what I want to know is this. If I were to fill an entire 10 gallon pot with Clay Pellets, would I be able to keep the plant with water and nutrients in the pot and still be able to grow the size plant I'm used to?

Any tips or comments or suggestions definitely welcomed!

I am not sure what size plant you are used to but hydroton is a great media for hydro as long as you aware that they don't hold any water at all.

the roots push right around hydroton - it won't stop the growth of roots. is this what you want to know?

!0 gallons... You should be able to grow a tree. You are going to need a way to drain anf fill or you could put air stones in the bucket if you are doing dwc.

Okay. I figured it out. At first I was planning on using a 10 gallon plastic pot with the holes in the bottom. Now I am going to be using a 5 gallon bucket without any holes in it. I might end up attaching a drain from it to create sort of a bucket ebb and flow.

***I just got an idea for a thread! if it hasn't been done yet. Anyone?

bucket within a bucket or wick system. check out hempy buckets.

it will be one 5 gallon bucket. there will be a hole drilled into the bottom of the wall and have a hose attached leading to another 5 gallon bucket with a lid on it. in this bucket there will be a sub-pump and an air pump. This will be just a one plant ebb and flow through a 5 gallon bucket. It shouldn't cost more than 30.00 to put this together. I'll post progress and practicality when I get it done.

sounds like a DIY water farm... you could just stick an air pump in the one bucket and do away with the other bucket altogether if you wanted.

sounds almost exactly like my setup, just basically and ebb and flow but using drippers instead of actually flooding the medium. this has worked great for me and i didnt even use an air pump, just to water pump, a resrevoir, and my planter with hydroton clay pellets.

nope. not a drip system. ill post pictures when i make it. i have a hard time describing things, better time showing.
