Well, not Stinger. Strela. We make Stinger. Russia makes Strela. But, yes, they had just taken a big shipment. And this is why they didn't mess around in Mail. The first gunship run killed a bunch of tangos and, woops, hostages. Was disrupted by Stelas.
It's in the "Stinger" catagory of shoulder fired, fire and forget, heat seeking ground to air missiles.

You should be flattered the rest of us call ours after yours.

Id still ike to see what a Javelin does to a helicopter tho :D

Its got alot more "bang".

Mali's been a hotbed for a good year now with operations ongoing and a strong western presence on the ground. US FID training has been limited, due to the Malian government being overthown and salafists setting up shop, but they are providing intell assests & air superiority. It's only been making the news of late. You got a link for the algerian stuff?

No I just hear these reports. It is very often the case that real stuff slips by in the first few days. Then they collude and rinse the info. I work all day with a couple of hrs with CNN and then Fox, catch Al J, BBC etc, in the background. It's part of the job. I'm listening for very specific things that hardly happen. A report of data corruption, massive hacking, etc. It is a very small part of the job. So, I have learned to tune out most of it.

But, when they float something unusual, well, that's what I'm doing. I'm listening for the unusual report that says my job is about to get exciting. So, I hear stuff. Weapons deals. Gunship attacks.... Who knows? But, I also hear the little attacks on the 2nd A, and all manner of school board failures.

Here's gunships. I can't find the MANPADS references. Maybe didn't happen, that way?

I suppose. I just think precision leads to better understanding of the problem. It will always be the Turing Test and the Xerox machine. :)

Technically, the weapon class is called MANPADS. Man carried, portable air defense system. And the 9M32 Strela 2 (NATO SA-7 Grail) is quite a step down from Stinger, in guidance, but built Stalin tough. The same punch as Stinger, however, if it hits.

Yep, it's the little stuff that matters.

Like Hillary and Barrack going on Pakistan TV. What happened ended up causing death in the Muslim world. The govt called a Day of Protest. I saw a map of over 35 reported incidents, riots, looting at our facilities, worldwide that day. Was it really to cover an arms deal?

Yeah, like that.
