Clone to DWC

I'm buying a clone to start a DWC grow. In my experience when you first transplant a clone done leaves die and new ones are formed due to the shock. How long should I give the plant to recover before I start training the plant?

If the clone is healthy and has roots coming out of the rockwool starter nothing should die. If all the leaves die and regrow your problem is out of my league.

Whoever told you that needs a kick in the ass. Out of 40 - 50 DWC grows and a few hundred plants in the last 16 years I've never seen that happen. Usually takes a few days for roots to grow out of the pots then another week to really see the plant taking off and growing fast. Train it all you want after that. Try DWC ScroG for the best yields.
