Clones Dying?

I'm new to this and I know I'm doing something wrong here. Would welcome any advice. These three clones are about a week old, no roots as of yet. They have been in a small rubbermade container with a clear plastic tray for a lid, under two 26 watt blue CFL's. They are more yellow every time I look at them and now they are starting to get brown spots. The temp has been aprox. 75-80 degrees. I've given them water only. After cutting I dipped in Roottech gel and put in cubes that had been soaked in ph5 water.

Is the temp. too hot? What is the ideal temp range for clones? Is it possible to have too much humidity? Is there a chance of saving them?

Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated.

They look totally fine! What happens is the roots need as much carbohydrate as possible to grow so they draw out all the goodness from the leaves, which in turn makes people think they are dying. In actual fact your cuttings are probably close to starting to root, by the looks another 2 or 3 days and roots will start to develop.

I cloned a male plant just to play around and they looked great from the start. That's why I was concerned about these. No roots yet but as long as they don't turn into compost before then they should be fine eh? The plant I took these from is now showing white hairs so these are now more important to me.

By the way, RandyRocket your first clones looked great!

Should these be under just blue CFL's (6500K) or a mix of blue and red (2700K)?

Grow On!

Update, I think it's day 17. No roots yet but I'd be happy if they just turned green. I'm trying to "store" these for another month or so but just not sure if they'll make it. They are under 18/6, one 26 watt 6500k CFL. Not sure if they are getting too much water or not enough.

Wow, Those clones aint loolkin so good:-(. Idk if the puple stemage is because of strain or whatever, but sur looks to bwe a phos. def? Suck u got no root yet man, hard to look at the pics and sya they're gonna ake it, but ya never know.

GrowTech

stays relevant.
1) Dont be concerned with growth or health of the bottom leaves.
2) Make sure the cubes dont dry out
3) Only dip a corner of the cube for a second... don't let it oversaturate itself

Yellowing is normal, and so is some of the bottom leaves completely dying off. It's not BAD, it's just how some cuts will react... ALSO some cuts will not wilt at all once you get your cloning method in tune, while others might wilt whether you like it or not.

Cloning is something that's never easy to do the first time around, but it helps if you take advantage of all the things you can... Clone tray, insert, dome, heat mat, rapid rooters ( i swear by rapid rooters ), clonex (big clonex fanatic), and some good clean bottled water in the tray & to saturate the clones... I get 100% success in around 1 week...

Don't be discouraged... find what you're doing wrong and resolve it :)

Good luck.

So naturally the males that I cloned last time just for practice turned out perfect. So I'm looking at things that changed. Because I cut these from a plant that immediately went into a 12/12 cycle, the clones were put into a light tight box to stay on the original 18/6 cycle. The standard clone tray would not fit in the box I made so I used a Rubber-made bowl instead. This is where I messed up maybe?

The cubes were in direct contact with the bottom of the rubbermade bowl with no space as seen in a clone tray. My clone tray has the ridges, the bowl does not. I wonder if this makes a big difference? It doesn't leave room if roots do emerge.

The cubes were always standing in a little bit of water. 1/8 inch maybe. Is this bad? Should I keep them moist but not standing in water? You say dip a corner, dip the corner and then don't allow direct contact with the water?

The males I cloned were on a 24 hour cycle. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Is 24 hour light better?

If the mother is now on 12/12 cycle, is it too late to take another cutting and put in in my box that's on 18/6?

I'm bummed now because this time the parent plant is a female. I found a half size clone tray at the local garden shop. I will change it out immediately and also give bottled water after I ph it correctly. I used Rootech after the cuttings were taken. I will also make sure the bottom of the cubes are not submersed in water.

Thank you all for taking the time in giving a newbie like myself some advice. It's MUCH appreciated and will be put to use!

Goodbye young girl. I'm sorry I killed you.

Was it too hot for you? Heat in the 90's may have baked you to death. I imagine that the low 60's those couple of mornings probably didn't help your roots either. A heat mat would have been a good thing. I wonder if I can get a small one. A full try size heat mat won't fit in my cab. Maybe I can find one for a lizard or something at the pet store. I hope the rubbermade container wasn't too small. Did I smother you? Sorry I didn't put vent holes in the top until it was too late. I won't do that again. I'm also sorry if I drowned you with too much water. I thought you liked to soak.

Your mother and I will miss you. We both hope that me torturing you to death wasn't for nothing and others will learn from my mistakes. (I'll be smoking the shit out of her in a couple weeks.)

R.I.P.
