Cloning - first time! :] I'd like some help, if available~

So, I just got back from the hydro store with my RooTech cloning gel :hump:

I have my mother plant with plenty of good branches. I have my clean razor blade waiting to cut. I'll dip the clones into the gel directly after cutting to avoid air bubbles and then...

Then what? Can I place them directly into soil in some party cups? That would really be best for me...I mean, I don't want to have to dick around with other stuff. Has anyone had success with this?

Also - what can I do with the cups once the clones are set? I don't have any kind of dome...to be honest, I really can't afford it at this time. I have a flower and a veg room...could I just set them on the side in my veg room, and maybe shade them a bit with something? I know they aren't supposed to get direct light, but what exactly does that mean?

Sorry that I'm kinda limited with what I have to work with. I'm sure most people started out just as confused as me though :]

Thanks for any help you have to offer!

Many people come to this stage and your off to a good start. I found it easy to place the soil in 3" net pots for a hydro setup, and then placing that in about 1/4" of water in a pan.

Wow I just typed a nice long answer... where did it go? Hmmm

Short answer. High humidity... Low light... if you don't have the cash for a dome, use a clear plastic bowl or something. but you want to keep that humidity high.

I have a terrarium left over from when I was trying to grow some shroomies. Its a big rubbermaid bin (like 8 gallon or whatever they are) and its clear with holes drilled in.

Should that work as a clone room? If I put the cups in there and then just mist the sides?

Also - I DO have some rock wool. Can I put some clones in the rock wool, and put the cup clones and rock wool clones in the same setup? And just mist the walls and wait for roots?

do you drink soda? before i bought a dome i used to cut the bottom off a 2 liter clear bottle & set the cuttings inside. place them in your veg room & notice roots in a weed or two

you can get a little transparent Rubbermaid tub from Walmart for no more than $2, thats all you need, humidomes from the hydro store are way to expensive for the exct same thing at walmart minus the little vent but u dont even need those unless you gotta 30+ clones, anyways having a humidome is VERY necessary if youre gonna stick those bad boys in cups of soil because they wont have any roots for a while and so theyll only be able to feed in through their leaves and th high humidity inside the closed tub allows them to do that, & its better to use jiffy pellets or small rockwool cubes so u can see when they for a strong root base better but the soil in cups will do. good luck! andd make sure you try and get a heat pad and keep those cuttings warm cus they also need warmth. so Humidity, warmth, and keep them moist (not soaked) n you should be set!

First off - looks like you got a great start my man! I don't recommend putting the clones straight into soil. While it is very possible to root clones in straight Fox Farms soil, its a million times easier to root them in Jiffy pellets or rockwool. That terrarium (sp?) of yours sounds like it would be perfect for a humidity dome. Put your cuttings in that rockwool of yours and put them under that terrarium under a CFL or regular fluoro fexture, spray them a few times a day, and you should see roots in a week or two. Then put those rockwool cubes into soil in your party cups or even right into a bigger pot (assuming you're planning on using a bigger pot) and those babies will start to take off! Good luck man and peace RIU!
