Clorine from tap water, how bad for the plant? Nutrients increase or decrease ph?

Hi
How bad its chlorine from the tap water for the plant? I have read to let the water 1-2 days for the chlorine to evaporate but i have seen that if i left it for a few days the ph increases from 6.5 to 7.5. I think a value of 7.5 its not so god for the plant.

Also i would like to ask if the added nutrients/fertilizers increase or decrease the ph of the water? Thanks for the answers!

Yes let it sit to allow the Cl to disperse. Lemon is OK to lower pH, but do not use baking soda, that is giving your plant sodium which is toxic. Find something else.

your water will still contain minerals and heavy metals especially if your on a well. theres a few cheap water filters (around $40) that you connect to a the end of a hose or some thing nicer and more expensive like a hydrologic unit that can do reverse osmosis to "purify" your water

** most every thing i've used has lowered my pH ** i use pH down solution for my adjustments (8-14 dollars bottle) almost never use up **

Thanks for the answers. A water filter will get chlorine out too? I will use biobizz ferts to nurish the plant, i cant test the ph of water blended with the fert couase i dont have an electronic ph tester. I have a ph solution tester, you put a few drops of that in the water, the solution colours the water then you compare the colour resulted with the ones in the ph chart. Can someone point me to a link wher can buy a good electronic ph meter thats not so expensive and it autocalibrates? Thanks.

a cheap britta filter system from your local store will help remove chlorine and reduce ppm and hard metals found in your water.

Yeah make sure to remove all the trace elements from the water and replace them after with some over priced ferts.

removing the chlorine depends if you are in dirt or hydro, in a hydro setup the chlorine is very beneficial to keeping funk out of the res and maintaining healthy roots.

Depending on where you are in the world they add chloramine not chlorine to the water these days, less evaporation making the addition pointless. Chloramine does not evaporate over night so you may as well just use the water or get RO going. Hope that helps. You can also find out exactly what is in your local water source by going onto their website, whoever supplies you.

Taking advice from others with regards to water is foolish considering we all have different sources, know whats in your water.

You wont find very many meters that auto calibrate. I personally like hanna instruments meters. i have a black ph/tds/ec meter that has lasted me for ever. Every 2 runs i calibrate using refference solution which you can pick at the hydro store. but this one should do just the ph.

a cheap brittta filter will remove minerals from your water but it's low volume. you will be filling and refilling the pitcher hundreds of times especially is you need to fill a res. Not to mention youll be burning through your filters which are expensive to replace i would just get a real purifier for the volume of water you will be using. this should befound at your local hydro shop but for example

i have never used filtered water, purifiers etc and have never had a bad crop yet. My tank gets filled, nutes in and forget about it! I'd love to know what difference splashing out on ro units etc really makes to your crop, anybody done a comparison?

My buddy has a huge hydrologic RO filter, but he is on a well water, and if you would look at his pre filter, eww junk, mineral, heavy metals, total gross out. Obviously it filters out the impurities in the water but what does it do for our plants.

IDK
I just bought a little pre-filter you attach to the end of a hose for about $30. Im going to filter my water on 1 table and compare it to the other non filtered table. Im all about my mini experiments cause i get to see for myself the results compare them to the info thats out there and gain a wealth of experience and 1st hand knowledge.

So ill let you know how it went in a couple months lol :p

Im with you here. I dont worry about ph, filtered water, humidity and I dont even know what ec levels are. I grow fantastic plants. Growing weed has turned into like fishing. You open up the 400 page Bass Pro Shops catalog and there are 1000's of lures for fishermen and only a few for fish.
