Closet Grow (First Attempt at Growing)

I built this out of pvc and space balnkets. I bought a cool humidifier that works just like a miniswamp cooler. I cut a hole in the side of the space blanket wall and taped it to the inlet of the Humidifier so that there is fresh air being pulled in from the outside through the humidifier. It seemss to be working well. If anyone see's anything I am doing wrong feel free to let me know. These guys are about 3 weeks old and I want to put them into flower in 1 more week. Also if you look closesly one of the plants ahve very little yellowing on the tips. Would this be a nute issue? It runs about 80-85 degrees right now (working on getting it cooler) and about 40-50% humidity. on 18/6 light cycle.

My only suggestion is to let em veg for 2 more weeks just for extra growth so the plants can support a bigger yield.. You don't wanna rush things too much. But otherwise they are lookin good.

Happy growin,

I placed 2 small pots with lavender plants in the grow room just to help mask some of the smell. I there any reason, other than using up some of the light, that I shouldn't do this? Does anyone know of a HPS bulb than can run in a m59 metal halide ballast setup?

Hi I like the clean set up, your plants look fine. But bud, u really need to let them veg otherwise your shorting your self by either smoke or money, what ever your reason is! I like the first attempted. Maybe I missed it, what light are you using? Seems a little slow on growth for three weeks. Again, all respect with that comment. Looks obv. like a MH maybe a 250?

i have heard great things about the agrosun gold bulb for use in flowering. i myself am currently running 2 250 watt MH lights and am waiting for the agrosun bulb in the mail. i will let you know how it goes!

It is a 400 watt MH. I thought it seemed a little slow but they were under a week tube FL lite for the first 2 weeks. They have only been under this MH for a week. They were just little things 1 week ago. Any suggestions would be great as I have no idea what I am doing. Can I underwater and slow growth? I am on the conservative side trying to error on to little water vs. to much. I have some nutes but haven't used any excepr a little superthrive. So do these seem small for 1 week under MH?

What does SUbb'd mean?

Hi, well I would not worry on underwatering vs slow growth as it is to overwatering for slow growth. Atleast if you underwater your roots search for moister and water!! This is why some people bottom feed. Also some people practice watering little and more often but still making sure they bottom of the pots are wet. I like that approch. When I feed I usually use a little less and when I water, I usually water heavier. But thats because I am on a Feed, Feed water routine.
About your lighting, I def think u justified the growth we see. U can use the 400MH sooner than what u did. I look at it on how many crops a year can I get. Small under the MH for one week, well thats hard to say because what did they look like when they went in under the 400MH. But I think they are finly showing some broad leaves and starting to cover the surface area of the pot- That to me is saying that your are finely stimulating your plant to build roots and grow! BTW, u def can keep your 400MH pretty damn close to the canapy. just make sure their is not a 'accumulation of heat', so a fan out take that hot pocket out around the shade and bulb. Maybe keep light one foot away!
About nuts, I would try out vitamax by grotec. Its a 1-1-2 so it has some nitrogen for the fixation of the P,K and it also has some good K value for root stimuli. great supplement for a feed program and helps to round your program out. I thnk u will like it!!Your plants will and if your ladies are happy, than u can be happy!

Hey nice work so far I am doing a grow as well almost 3 weeks in just like you. I was wondering how big the pots are that you are using? If you want you can also take a look at my grow in my signature..I'm a first timer.

I did have it closer but the heat was way to much. I am running about 80-85 during the day and if I lower the light I just to hot. How can I lower it and keep to temp. low.

So I lowered the light to about 12" and it instantly curled one of the plants leaves. It was a bit hot. I raised it a little more and it seems it's about 18" from the canopy.

Rule of thumb, move your light. Put your hand under it where your canopy is. If its uncomfortabley hot for your hand, its gunna be hot for your plants. Tinker with it till you get the right high, where your happy and your plants are comfy.

Well, if your 80 or so, your plants internal temp is about two degrees lower than the ambient in any grow room. You can thank your P values for that. Its crazy for me to understand why its so hot about 1 foot away from the plants?!?! I also have a 400MH (dont use anymore) it always ran very cool. It was also 240V but I wired it to 120V too. Do u have the little ballast in the room? That would def help! But sure u know that lol. For heat, maybe open up your tarp and place a oscillating fan blowing straight on the bulb? I mean it would prob work since MH burn much cooler than HPS and I seen that work over a HPS, well that said also a MH and super MH. Either way, dont be afraid of some heat, u will know when your in flower 4 sure and U will also know by looking at your plants leaves and see if the veins are pinching!

Hi, Ottoboy, hum, kinda hard to explain u kinda have to see what heat stress looks like on the leaf not bud etc. Best way to put it. When u get ridge lines building up between veins. This is were your leaf tends to fold a bit- in between veins. Their are several other things that can cause this like rapid growth but its obv heat stress if it's to hot! Did I make any senses? heha

UPdate..... I have decided to stop watering so much. I will attempt to water ever 5 days. I also have lowered the light to about 14" from the canopy I had it about 11" and it burned one of the plants. I also see a couple plants first sprout leaves have yellowed and dried up. Is this normal? If not, what would cause this.

Any advise would be great.

Oh yeah that Bud you see snuck in there. It's just some really stoney bud (according to my wife) that I have been getting for good swagg prices. Yeehooo!

Hi, great looking plants. BTW thats def not from the light. That would be root damage BUT if their was damage to the root and the plant leaf became damaged 'mechanically' the light and nuts u give WILL no doubt be a symptom of that u see their!!!! PLants look great. The leaves DO NOT look heat stressed at all! Your in great standings. I would be a little 'gingerly' about feeding your plants nuts to offten because your plants are not as photo reactive as a 600 or 1000HPS.. All respect, great job!

I have not given any of the plants nutes yet. I am waiting until I see any evidence that they would need them, since half of them are in MG soil. That burn was from the light. I lowered the light and within 15 seconds it went from a healthy blue green leaf to a fried one. I watch it wilt before my eyes. Maybe I don't understand.... Are you saying that there was something systemic wrong and the light begin lowered was the catalyst causing damage. I am a noob so forgive my ignorance.

Hi, wow, thats crazy, :) Thats a new one for me, but I am glad to learn too. LIght can impede on development too. And nut can do the same!! If your root's do become damaged and the leaves that are linked to those roots WILL be effected by the environment or nuts. The biggest thing is, IF your roots are damaged and the leaf that is Linked to the roots becomes damaged 'mechanically' like a tear in the leaf etc, nuts will tend to burn the roots and the first sign of it will show up on the damaged leaf edges etc. It will continue to dry or beocme brittle. Even if u feed low it does not mater, U will get a accumulation of salt. Light will agitate it too. Also to much light will normally be reflected but on damaged surfaces were light cannot be reflected anymore prove to be a dormanting problem on the development to that area were the leaf supports too.
Did i make any sense?

That made sense and thanks for the explanation. I have trouble even growing tomatoes so growing weed successfully will be quite an accomplishment for me. Man do I wish I smoked this stuff...... It would make this growing thing that much more fun.
