call it debate call it summit call it what ever the you want. both parties stuck with there plan and had no intention of compromise they just are grandstanding for voters. there will be no savings with this bill. everything washington of today does cost more and rarely works for the bennefit of the country. and by benefit of the country i mean the country as nation not the poor unlucky, unqualified , unemployed or uneducated. utopia doesnt exist. the reality of accounting must be used and not emotions and politics.

and mcain was just pointing out how this bill was put together with back door deals that show us who want to see it how politicians dont really care about whats best for the country and sometimes that means say sorry voters we just cant afford this right now. that would be insane dont you think.

There is no compromise to be had....there never was...:wink: It was a set up Dog & Pony show by the Dem's, and it shows also that Obama is panicking. As he should be. he's done about as bad a job as anyone ever predicted. then again....he has absolutely no experience......and it shows....glaringly. The whole world sees it now. Some are taking great advantage of it, and some are waiting to see who comes next in 2012.

He's panicking because in the beginning Obama wasn't interested in consensus governing. He thought his way was what we wanted. Now a year has passed and every poll now has him under 50% approval.

NOW he is shifting gears because even a noob like him can read the political writing on the wall.

one problem... the ppl are jaded on him now and can tell the shift is not genuine...but for political survival.... he won't survive though....and the Democrats are now looking at the largest losses ever. c'mon November!! It's not too late to fix the huge mess that is Obama and the hard left. The ppl know this now...and will not be fooled a second time.

Obama and the dems badly overestimated what they saw as their mandate. They still seem confused about it. Obama is still scratching his head thinking, "I won, so why isn't everyone just folding before me?" He thought he was going to transcend opposition. I fear he truly doesn't live in the real world.

So here he is in year two and his legislative agenda is in a shambles. Not only is his healthcare reform not going to happen, he is going to have to bite the bullet and cheerlead for a pared down version which republicans will give him and claim equal credit for.

The perception has shifted and he can't correct it. His approval is below 45%. The number that think his stimulus has been a success is even smaller. His bailouts and government takeovers - even less popular. His deals and bought votes - still less popular.

So of course he is panicking. I give him credit for not being stupid enough to NOT panic. This whole summit and the posturing was a last ditch panic move, and it failed.
The republicans have won over the "reasonable man," - the disinterested third party. They have won him with:

1. This is important, 1/6 of the economy.
2. The democrats have tried to advance it with trickery (Louisiana and Nebraska).
3. For the past year they have shut republicans out acting like bullys with their supermajority.
4. But as soon as they lose it they expect republicans to help with the heavy lifting.
5. The republicans "do" have proposals! The media just wasn't reporting on them.
6. The republicans want to go back to the drawing board.
7. The democrats want something RIGHT NOW (for political reasons).

Reasonable Conclusion: Congress hasn't worked together like we wanted for the last year. Republicans weren't given much of a chance, but would they have anyway? Nevermind the past, can't be changed. This is too big to fail. Start with a blank slate and achieve a bipartisan bill. That's what America wants.

Just like calling a black guy "boy" would be racist - but how is "boy" in and of itself a racist word? It's not, it's the context in which the word is used that's racist. (I'm not saying what was said was racist, just that's the interpretation) Call a white guy "boy" and it's not really racist... But you can call a black guy a "honkey" all day long - not racist, turn it around on a white guy... racist. It's all context.

Some pared down plan will pass. They can strip off enough republican votes to pass the the 1/4 plan Obama has. Or they can go back to the drawing board and get something that incorporates republican ideas and make it truly bipartisan with maybe 80% for it.

The real issue here is whether dems will insist it be passed before the election. If so you know the motivation is partisanship, not how well it works.

The numbers don't lie...but one must be able to put them in context. You think it's the health care? I don't. I think there are many factors which affect life expectancy.

Then again, I possess some common sense.

Socialized medicine is INFERIOR medicine. It creates INFERIOR innovation and INFERIOR access to the innovations.

Common sense. Get some. Maybe the govt. will give you some, since you look to them for all the solutions to your personal problems.

It appears you misinterpreted my post which was actually supporting your position on "free healthcare". In your apparent haste to correct me, you advised I "stay in school". Generally I'm not nit picky, but I couldn't let this pass.

I think you need to write something on the blackboard one hundred times.

it isnt about free health care. its about stopping the greedy, evil insurance companies, and out of control rising costs. you want smaller government? lets start with the fda, how about no more schools either, or fire stations, or cop shops. they are all examples of "socialized" gov't. the rethugs dont want to start over, they want O to fail, at the expense of the country. and its not that 25 percent support our health care, its that only 25 percent support the monstrosity it has been portrayed as. you know, all the little death panel, raise the deficit. bs the right has been spreading. and the bad thing is you people dont even realize that washington rethugs dont agree with you cuz they agree with you, its cuz they get money from the insurance people, you people are just voting against your own interest. but thats ok, we liberals have enough sense to look out for both of us. now bash away, we still have POTUS, house, and senate......
