COB design

so after reading NUMEROUS posts and lurking and getting familiar (somewhat with COBs) this is what my idea is for ky 4x4. It now costs me more to cool damn tent than run HID (electricity here is stupid expensive) forgive my shit drawing. Got in touch w Vivi from Alibaba and after watching all of Mau5' videos im going to give it a whirl. (Past life as electrician for 9 years should help)

Give or take 20 cree res LED from rapid (used them for my reef tank kit and Mike is great to deal with)

Trying to give the 1000w a run for its money. Usual haul is between 18-22(max I got, only have done 3 harvests) from 4 plants. This batch is first attempt at SCRoG as well.

Any and all help or telling me im fucking up is welcome. Stay frosty

You'll have a massive hot spot in the middle with that config. I'd go with somethin different .

After I uploaded I was thinking if I left middle open and had just a frame of them and possibly dropped a UV in center (if there is any credence to the use of them) i only popped one in middle to even it out and Mau5' 3x3 x as a center one. His may be independent and dimmable alone but most likely not. COB is beyond foriegn to me to a point so im sure that design wil change about 10 times before I build it.

Looks weird, but I think you'll be a lot better off. Just gotta space 3 seperate bars of 3, a little differently.

Thanks Air, that top looks like the ticket. Can still pop my all reds in between.

If you can get yourself one extra cob in your setup, I'd mimick growmau5's Canopy 10 layout. He said that the par #'s were incredible. ESPECIALLY once he threw LEDiL angelina RZ diffusers in the center 4. Just use 2 185-1050B's(5 on each) rather than 1 320-1050B. But if I were you I'd say screw that 1050 nonsense, get 2 Pairui LGSU250-1400D (dimmable) and run 5 on each one. Get that extra power boost and just dim if you need to. JERRY from KingBrite is selling those drivers for like $35!

I had that in the cart from cutter. The price I had from Ali was half of Mau5's kit but didnt include holders or reflectors, plus still have to wait for the trip from China and shell out $100 ahipping. His canopy 10 is prob best bet. Ill happily pay a bit more for somebody who has spent so much time and $ to make vids and teach. Im the worst im always changing my mind lol. Btw how in the hell do I like a post. Used to GC but after lurking realized the plethora of info I was missing out kn not participating here

Mine is 1m x 1m and will be running 16 3590s which will be for a 4x4 tent, it will have 4 drivers so i will wire up the 4 center cobs to 1 driver so i can dim if it gets too hot in the middle, hopefully

Thats one thing I wanted to start on was frame so I was a bit ahead of the game. What is width of that heat sink, that was one thing holding me back from jumping in was no true dimensions on components. Ty popeye

I have a few burple leds a solar storm and a mag357 so I just got some 4 cob kits from Timber grow lights and made 2 40" bars with 4 cobs each, and use one of the burples for the reds. I grow it two locations so only get 2 crops a year and my electric is like gold in FL. The 200w 4 cobs kits had a heat sink that would fit into a 4" channel So I cut the frame from 8ft angle 3/4" x1/16".2- 40" 4-4" Cost me 420 each to make including the pop rivet tool.

That is a cutter heatsink by the way not sure of the dimensions of any other heat sinks

I think my heat sinks were 100mm.

Shit now I wanna do 20 COBs for a true 1000watt after seeing price at Timber.
