Cob swap out is it possible?

So I have a great cob setup its a tasty 300w 6 cob design. It works great in a 4x4 but it really rocks a 2x4 which I use for flowering. My question is to all the cob geniuses on here can I upgrade the cob chips to say Citizen, luminous etc... I'm just curious. I am however thinking of swapping out the originals for 1750k an 3k chips just because its for flower only so it would def be an upgrade from the 3k,35k,4k (not sure what chips are in it) is this feasible to do? I just switched from a hlg 320w xl (3 board's) for the cob for better penetration. Thank you all...

I really don't think those cobs are going to give you better penetration. A hlg320 would have really good penetration in a 2x4

I have run 1750k with 3k chips for a few years, with great results. I changed 1750k this year with some logic pucks with blue. And added 660nm rings from Red Shift PCB to my 6 3k chips

I know qbs have a nice even spread, but you cant argue that cobs dont have better penetration?

You should invest in a nice par meter before you spend any more on lights. Those cobs might have a few spot readings that are higher but you will probably have lower overall penetration and isn't the cob fixture less effecient and less watts? That qb 320 has the capability to pull a lb from a 2x4 in the right hands. If your already getting a lb and want more idk what to tell you haha

Always back to the par meter.. You dont need a par meter to know that a 3/4" square pushing out 50 to 100watts of light is going to go farther than a single diode or even a dozen in a square. As far as efficiency is concerned, the difference is peanuts.

The qb's didn't penetrate deep enough into this Hindu kush even though it is spread out it has dense foliage. I have 300w into 6 cobs approx 14" away in a 2x4 tent and the plants are thriving. (This is a small pheno hunt down to 5 females from 7 out of 10 popped) This is the first run with these tasty led's I have 1 more run with this strain and I will run the QB but I'll have to defoliate alot more than I would like to

So you took out the deep reds and replaced them with blue's? How are your results comparative (is it same strain same environment same nutes etc....

Look closely at a cob it's a ton of tiny little diodes.

I get fat dense buds 3' into my canopy with qb only cobs I've ran are old cxb3070 and vero29 so those aren't really comparable its way old tech but they definitely didn't do as well. How far away did you run the qb? If you weren't getting good penetration you were probably to far away that's why I suggested the par meter

What cobs are in the light now (pull one and read the back) and how are the wired up (parallel or series)? What drivers? You are using chip holders and not glue right?

Yes Chip on Board. Doesnt change the fact that my 24" square cob rig can pump out up to 600w. You couldnt cram that many boards into my space.

My only point was why compare apples to oranges. Qb's have there place as do cobs

Have you seen the qb96? It does more wattage in a smaller space.

Regardless of the source, don't all photons travel until they hit something?
Why would the photons from a COB travel any farther than the photons from a board?

You dont think 2700k 80cri, 3000k 90cri, 3000k 80cri would perform better in flower than 3500k 80cri and 4000k 70cri?
CRI is about the same, I think the quantity of light means more then the spectrum (to an extent) . I run 3K 315 CMH fixtures through the whole grow and they do just fine.
