COB vs Gavita 600/750 DE HPS (SOG Single Cola)

Hello everyone,

I've been preparing for a move and am looking for a little guidance on what lighting would be most efficient in the long term for my flower room(s). There are many comparisons of lights out there but most of those include plants that are very tall relative to mine and had a lot of veg time. I'm planning to run a max 2 week veg with very high plant count monocropped. ~8 plants a square foot at least. Probably not more than a foot and a half high

I'm not sure that the penetration provided by even a small DE HPS will be utilized no matter how high I raise my lights in an average residence. And there are obvious efficiency problems getting the light too far away

Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions of the space available. Know that I plan to grow in a house with ebb and flow and multi site dwc with equally high density of plants.

From what I've read if LED can compete anywhere it's in a set up I've described. But are they really viable next to the DE HPS for flower in the long term? Is the initial higher cost ever going to pay for itself?

If so what angle do I want my diodes to emit at? 60 90 120? My plants are going to be very short relative to most of yours. What COBs are the best bang for my buck in flower with power consumption? I believe most plants want about 2k umols? That's what I'd be shooting for evenly across my canopy (maybe watts, par, or lumens is better not sure)

I'm handy enough and familiar with sites like aliexpress, gearbest, fasttech etc. Bought a Cree flashlight a few months ago. So I can probably procure the stuff at a decent price. I just need to know what I'm looking for so I can price it and get start somewhere. I feel like I'm just wandering aimlessly through threads

Even just pointing out which kit I would want to replicate for a flower light set up to replace the gavita* would be a great start. I see some interesting stuff for sale but I get teh feeling with a little knwo how I could order the stuff direct from china for half the price these kits are selling for.

And I'm not set on the LED, so if you think the time isn't right for flowering under them let me know that too. And yield is not everything, so if you think LED will give the cannabis qualities the market will pay more for, feel free to factor that into your response.

Thanks

edit - just to be clear I'm looking for a set up that will cover about a 4x4 ft canopy. I'd just scale it up with that

Perhaps you should check out my thread about it, or not if you don't want to. Almost done with the side by side and moving to flush.

I actually did

Your DIY chiller from the freezer was very nice.

But your plants are literally triple the height i plan to run mine. What's optimum for you can't be optimum for me with that difference, right?

I plan to run a* SOG like this

Or the equivalent in ebb and flow

Well if you use cobs you can have the light super close, like within 3in or about my thumb length. No bleaching at all. So if your height restricted then that's the best option... If you need even less stretch then go with the 4000k as the amount of blue only made my plants stretch about 4-6inchs
