Coco

Any coco growers in Maine?

I am wondering about nutrients. I have been using the technaflora BC line for years, and have been happy with the results.

I picked up some Cana, as well as House & Garden nutrients to try out. Both are kindof expensive compared to the technaflora stuff.

At some point I want to try organic nutrients.

Just wondering what everyone else is using.

I have a good friend that swears by coco. He uses coco-not, and loves it. Let me get some info on feeding from him

I use Cutting Edge Solutions nutes in coco/perlite. No problems with cal/mag issues using their calcium and magnesium supplements, I add the calcium supp (PlantAmp) once a week and the magnesium supp (MagAmp) every feeding.

I haven't gotten around to trying other nutes out yet. I just don't think the more expensive nutes are going to make a difference. But I have them, so I will need to use them sooner or later. I also don't think I care about trying out organic hydro. If I want organic, I will go to soil.

Cutting Edge Solutions looks good because it is less expensive than what I am using now. For the ultimate low cost solution, I am thinking about mixing my own nutes.

What coco/perlite ratio do you use?

I usually shoot for about 40/60.

I've experimented with various mixtures and finally settled on straight coco on top of a base layer of chunky perlite. Perlite costs significantly more than coco and i've found that straight coco needs fewer feedings.

Still haven't got around to trying other nutes.

I have been doing a heavier coco mix because I got low on perlite.

I am trying to figure out how big of a container I need to use. I was using 5 gallon containers, but that was overkill. I tried some 1 gallon containers and had better results than I expected. I had a Black Widow plant put out 11+ oz. The buds from that one plant almost filled up a 2 gallon jar.

And it is pretty good quality

This Jack Herer plant hasn't dried yet, so I don't know how much weight it will have, but it is a big plant. I thought it would get root bound in a 1 gallon container.

It had three big tops.

I have been using general hydroponic coco blocks. It is not chunky.

For the 1 gallon container grow, I only used technaflora b.c. three part and magical.

Had to be watered/fed two or three times a day.

A most infamous strain that since 1994 has won a number of awards, including the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995, and has acquired acclaim from most corners of the globe - rightly so. It has a pedigree of parentage that combines a Brazilian Sativa with a South Indian hybrid. Basically, it is the original parents of White Widow changing its colors like its company. Indoors 10 weeks of flowering will be necessary to realize the immense resin production. In the northern hemisphere expect harvest around September/October, having planted as late as June. However, there is a chance that rain could reduce the expected yield. A highly recommended strain for amateur breeders - the male being preferable.

Price wasn't too bad. A little more than $100 for a 15 pack of seeds. There were 18 seeds in the pack.

The sensi seeds jack herer was around $250 for 10 seeds. That was a little pricy. When I first bought seeds 12 years ago, jh seeds were $400+ for 10 seeds, so I went with a knockoff. I did the same thing for white widow back then.

I am also breeding now, so it isn't just for the buds. But I don't think I will be spending $20+ per seed again. Or if I do, it won't be very often.
