cocoa fiber?

never heard of cocoa fiber before. can it be useful in making an organic mix for veg?

(ill be having an indoor, hydro setup.)
i plan on making a mix for my mother plants. im reading up a lil on cocoa fiber, perlite, vermiculite, and peat moss. seems like i should be careful with how much peat moss i put in.

whats the main dif in perlite and vermiculite? (function) they have similar prices, but vermiculite seems to be a little harder to find.

i plan on putting my seeds and clones into macro plugs. for the mother seedlings, the plugs will go into plastic cups filled with organic mix. the clipping plugs will be placed into larger rockwool cubes. ill pick my strong seedlings for my mothers (probly two) and transplant them into 10 gallon buckets filled with mix. clones will chill in 4 in cubes until flowering. (is this a bad idea?)

i plan on using clay pebbles for flowering.

any feed back/advise will be greatly appreciated. this is the extent of my growing medium knowledge, so if anybody feels like going off in a tangent, im all ears.

It's mroe commonly reffered to as coir. It is comparable to peat, but with some differnces. It provides more aeration, but hold less water and has a higher pH, though still below 6. It has less natural nitrogen than peat also.

Coir is also used in many hydroponic production systems because it does the job well, and can be disposed of between crop sycles to reduce the chance of pathogen problems.

Perlite and vermiculite are similar. Both are sterile out of the bag, have a nuetral pH and have a good cation exchange capability, though vermiculite is significantly better. Perlite's main drawback is that it has a tendentcy to become crushecand copact losing it's water retaining capabilies. Vermiculite is more durable and easily miscable with other medias, however always make sure you get the horticultural grade of vermiculite, as there are other types treated with chemical for fire resistance or such that will signifigantly stunt you plants.

a media that is 1/3 peat 1/3 bark, and 1/3 vermiculite can grow most anything.
