Coir, Perlite And Radishes In A Bubbler

For my second try at hydroponics I built "The bubbler" as described in "The cannabis growers bible" by Greg Green. It's basicly a tub with an aquarium airsone in it with baskets on top to put your grow medium. I put a 20% strength solution of Miracle grow tomato food in the tub.

Then I took 45 radish seeds, 1 basket of coir, 1 basket of coir/perlite 50/50 mix and 1 basket of perlite. I put 5 seeds directly into each cup and presoaked the other 30 seeds for 4 hours. I then planted 5 pre-soaked seeds in each basket and placed the other 15 in a paper towel to germinate. 24 hours later I planted 5 germinated seeds in each cup. Whew.

It has now been nearly 72 hours since I started with seed and I have many sprouts. That was quick. They actually came up yesterday but this morning when I got up I saw what I thought was mold on all my plants in the coir. Really looked bad. White fluff all around the base of the sprouts where they came out of the soil.
On closer inspection it's not mold. It's root growth. I'm not a radish expert but I've grown a few lately and this kind of root growth seems exceptional to me. Got a couple nice shots. Anyone seen this sort of root growth on radishes before? I'm sort of impressed myself...

The final results are about what you'd think. Perlite alone was the smallest growth and least amount of sprouts. The coir and the coir/perlite 50/50 mix about tied. Nearly every seed sprouted regardless of how they were prepared. The only watering these ever got was the splash from the bubbler they were in. Coir seems like a very good sprout and seedling medium and the bubbler was easy to care for. This picture was taken 3 or 4 days after they were removed from the bubbler and were living on the nutrients in the medium only.
