well i was token up as usual when a good friend called me, he had called to check the price for butter, i knew something was odd because he doesnt much like edibles i told him and asked why, when he explained i was shocked....... a good friend of ours whomhas been smoking for years and about two years ago quit smoking grits but anyway he had taken a bong toke and felt a sharp pain in his chest he than attempted to sleep after a few hours he had woken up with increasing pain he went to the er and had a collapsed lung the doctor knew it was from smoking and mentioned he should stop immediately and now he has a temporary tube out of his rib cage the whole thing just seems brutal and ive never heard of it i actually believed that there was almost no health risk from smoking now i have learned diferent and was sooo shocked i had to post it

well you are breathing in smoke, it's not like it's good for you.
eating it is the best way really, but a bit more expensive overall...

People get lung cancer who have never smoked... Almost half of them. It's probably not completely the smoking at fault.

Ding ding....red alert, red alert...Smoking is harmful to your health.

You have got to be kidding us right? Did you think smoking was good for your lungs?

I hope your friend recovers :hump:

it's probably from taking too big and deep of hits.

I've kind of felt like I take too big of hits myself . . .. feeling it up at the top of my lung.

taking smaller rips, much more enjoyable...than coughing up a lung

Collapsed Lung Causes

The primary cause of a pneumothorax is trauma to the chest cavity. A fractured rib, for example, could puncture the lung. In addition, penetrating trauma from a bullet, knife, or other sharp object can directly puncture the lung.
Sometimes, very tall, thin people are prone to a spontaneous pneumothorax. In this condition, the lung collapses after minimal or no trauma. Other risk factors are cigarette smoking and recreational drug use or abuse.
Spontaneous pneumothorax

  • This refers to a condition in which the lung collapses with no apparent injury or trauma.
  • Abnormal, small, air-filled sacs in the lung called "blebs" typically rupture and leak air into the pleural space, leading to the spontaneous pneumothorax. This happens in the cases of tall and thin people, who because of the shape of their lungs and chest cavity, are seemingly more prone to these defects.
  • Shortness of breath and sharp, stabbing chest pain develop in apparently healthy people.
  • Cigarette smokers are at greater risk for spontaneous pneumothorax.
  • Recreational drug users who inhale deeply and forcefully are also at greater risk.

It really has nothing to do with weed at all, your friend was probably smoking out of a rezzy bong slide and had to suck way to hard. So maybe the weed affected his decision -making skillz there, tip: too much suction equals a lung malfuction.See when you suck in through a bong, your lungs do some work, especially if the bowl is packed way too tight (that's the packer's fault) however, you need to be carefull not to over-exert yourself and work your lungs too hard, just like popping a blood vessel while taking a crap; same concept. So smokers just remember the bigger the bung the safer the lung, it's all about more airflow haha

I also know a guy that knows a guy that collapsed a lung ripping on a monster bong...

I believe I may have ripped out a little bit of one of my lungs also on a monster bong hit, the cone piece was massive and I have small lungs genetically... but I'm not going to get into that... I coughed up something that was not food and my chest hurt for ages... It stopped me from smoking for about a week and then I started back on the regular sized bongs...
