I am planning on using your super soil but my setup has recently changed so I need some input. My new setup is composed of a 2x4 foot flower space with 8 females. Each female has her own individual 1x1 foot screen...so 8 girls in a 2x4 scrog.
My question is how large should I make my pots? I am building custom puts to fit my needs and want to know since the plants are quite small, how many gallons should I make each pot to properly utilize the super soil mix?

Hey guest, In his threads you will see seven and ten gallon pots mainly. "The bigger the root system the bigger the buds" Is a good rule of thumb to consider. Sub's got a lot of work to do, but he is more than happy to help out when he gets spare time. See what the biggest pots your space will possibly support and I'd do that. hope this helps for now.

I am familiar with Sub's methods, that why I am asking what he would suggest for altered conditions where a 7 gallon was not necessary....I'm talking a 1 sq. foot scrog canopy not something like a 9 sq. foot.

I believe Sub's soil recipe is designed for 7 gallon and larger pots. He says in his Super Soil thread that using smaller pots and the plants may cause your girls to run out of "fuel" before the end of the run.

I'm going to be mixing up some super soil soon and using it in 3 and 5 gallon pots. I plan on having to top dress the soil at some point if necessary.

It may be possible to use smaller pots and not have to top dress if you don't do the 60 day veg cycle that Sub does.

You could use larger pots and fewer girls to fill your screen and stick with 7 gal pots. Just a thought.

Yeah maybe you could use smaller pots and go 12/12 from seed and just skip vegetative growth stage all together. I have grown this way before, but only in FFOF, not his super soil.

Ok here is my answer for what its worth :)
Take into account that my plants are some 10X larger than yours at finish so when I am telling people that they need a 7 gallon pot I am speaking of a 60 day veg and 60-70 day finish so I use a great deal of food.
If your growing one strain I would consider using a tub or large container to maximize your root base.
The short answer as much soil as you can fit and still have room to work the area but with 4 plants in a trained scrog I'd be using one big rubbermaid storage container as my soil holder.

Thanks sub. My reasoning for the 4 different pots is it would make it easier to take them out to work with...I guess I could put 2 in a pot, but how much soil would I use?

edit: I guess I should elaborate some. Based on my design the largest the pots can be is 1x1 foot print with a height < 1 foot. A 1 foot height would make for about 7 gallons supporting each plant. ....hmm, I am wondering since I would like to save space if i could make the tub 2x2x.5 for a total of 14 gallons for 4 plants, but with only a 6 inch tub height.?
