Container Questions

Whats up gang,

going smart pots (fabric breathable containers) for my next grow, which will also be a coco grow, and was curious about container sizing, specifically wide and stocky vs. the more traditional tall slender style of pot. the two options are as follows :

15 liter-35cm wide, 15cm tall

or

20 liter-31cm wide, 26cm tall

all of my ensuing grows will be Autos, however, 3 strains I will be growing are "XXLs" from dinafem, and another is the Grand Heft Auto from Dr. Krippling, all of which are supposed to get pretty tall (for autos).. I'm a bit worried about head space which is why the 15 liter pots appeal to me, on top of that I want to avoid root binding. My theory, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the combination of smart pots air-pruning aspect along with the wide diameter of the 15 liter container, will promote a large and healthy root system (essentially filling out the entire 35cm diameter), and the 15cm will be deep enough to enable the plant to establish a solid tap root. is this reasonable thinking, or am I missing something here? I really want to focus on root development with these babies to optimize growth and nute uptake. Also, is 15L enough medium for a coco grow? plan on cutting 70L of coco with 10L of perlite and 10L of expanded clay pellets.

Please enlighten me and as always any additional info or insight is greatly appreciated.

The shorter wider pots are meant for clones vs the traditional one meant for starting beans. I would suggest not using the smart pot brand fabric pot as they do not hold up after a grow or so very well they get too soft and floppy. Look for grass roots fabric pots or the Geo pots that build a soil sells.

My $0.02 based on what I have encountered so far and talking to folks over at grass roots about the same subject.

@Evil-Mobo im in the EU so the name brand smart pots arent available here, and the ones I'm looking at seem to be of a relatively good quality... are you familiar with the 4-inch root theory? this is also part of my plan, to attain a strong set of "branch roots" within the first 4 inches which will then move horizontally as well as vertically throughout the pot, any thought?

I'm no expert but logic would lead me to think that the plant will grow it's roots wherever you give it room to grow. I was just relaying info based on my conversations with grass roots beforehand on their specific reason for the wider and shorter pots. You can always try one of each with clones and compare?
