Contamination question....

Ive been on my first cultivation of Eq spores...Took almost 6 weeks to get my jars to fully colonize. 3 of my jars werent fully colonized and I jumped the gun and put them in my chamber anyway.

Its been 7 days since I've started my birthing phase and last night I noticed "green" and a dark fuzzy spot about the size of a thumbtack. So I immediately threw it in a bag and got rid of it. I have 12 cakes. On 2 of them I have noticed a light blue green colorization? You have to look hard to notice it. Is this contamination. I am puzzled. Because I made it thre the colonization of my jars with no contamination. Here are some pics. I have been misting and fanning about 4 times a day. They do go from about 10:30 to 6pm (work) without any misting or fanning. But it starts as soon as my wife or I get home.

One good note...1 cake started pinning last night!!....But about the light blue green...Could I get some input on that. My terr is in the closet....It has to be because of my situation. (check out my name)

Thanks for any help I can get....lightbluegreen.jpgIMAG0394.jpgdrawer2.jpgShotgun Terr.jpgDarkgreen.jpgdrawer3.jpgIMAG0395.jpgdrawer 1.jpg

This is what I am going to tell you Sir.
Remember when you told us you used an
old tv box for your heat control .... ?
Well obviously the temperature was not constant ...
To tell you the truth ... your cakes don't even look like
they have any growth of myc on them at all .... but mold.
I hope I am wrong sir. But I don't believe that I am.

:)

Puffer....you just ALMOST made me piss myself laughing...(at myself). Your absolutely right. That Direct TV Box was never a constant temp. Being that the jars would get really warm (when the DVR was kicked on) but then when sometimes, well Im sure you can already figure it out.

The whole time my jars were turning white...I was thinking...this is too fuckin easy. I guess this is what I get for taking the lazy road and not making a constant temp incubator.

So...should I toss the mfers? Or should I crumble them up and bury them with some horse shit? (I live on a farm)...Remember I have 1 cake that has a few fruits on it. Should I just roll with that 1? And, should I toss the terr I built. I'm sure its got contams in it from what you said.

Just to let you know....I take constructive criticism very well. I'm a old head in my early 30's who has done and seen it all since the age of about 15. I could just drive and go pick as many as I could carry, but the risk is too great at this time in my life. If I was busted in a field, my family, job, and church family, would shit a brick. (Or now that I think about it, would they even be surprised?) But anyway thanks for any tips guys...

Also, I have a syringe of MS left, that I didn't use (Thank God) because I wanted to make sure I didnt fuck up the first time. I was about to do a LC tek (Hippy Piss, shroomtalk) What do you think about that. I was going to try a bulk mono grow. I have a bucket of horseshit outside drying as we speak. What do you think I should do?

Thanks

Sir I am in no way criticizing you ... I am just resonating
lessons passed by others.

:)

Everything is an experiment ...
If you have some fruiting ...happening
stay the course .... and learn about the life-cycle of your strain.
You can also learn how to mist it right ... and when it is ready ...
You can make a liquid culture with what you get.
This LC will save you time on the next go.

Inoculate with your spores ... (but realize and correct your error)
And look into monotub setup .... it is much easier
with much better results.

This is not about my ego ... nor a critique ...
All I want to do is save you time.

I wish you success !

whoah hey man if you got fresh mushies, make an LC clone, save your syringe, check out the pftek sticky thread, there is some lc info in there and two tissue clone teks i belive, if you cant find them or there gone or something i'll post one for you.. your flushes and colonization times should improve, select your biggest best looking mushroom to take the tissue from.

Or you could just go back to agar and dishes. DSCF1120.jpgDSCF1121.jpgDSCF1119.jpg. Throw one of these in a blender for 15 seconds and you have instant LC (well.... almost).

Thanks guys! Ive checked again and this is the 8th day since Ive put in the chamber and I am seeing pins on three of the cakes now. So, Im going to take your advice and just go with the flow and study the life cycle.

I just made a list for the store and what do you guys like better for an incubator? The TiT method or the one using a lizard mat?

I'm also going to grow some LC this evening. I'm debating on my lids. I know I'm going to use tyvek this go around. But should I keep with the 4 holes, or use the silicone 2 hole method?

Going to go mono tubs this time for sure. I think I can go along alot faster and looking for a bulk grow!

Thanks!!!

You know, the pictures weren't quite steady enough - it looked as though the blusih color might just be mycelial bruising. FamilyFarmer, take a look at the pics I posted and see if the color doesn't look similar to what you have. That isn't contamination, it is likely the sign of a very desirable trait of this mushroom. OF course my pictures are pretty blurry. Damn.

You did a horrible job those are not even fully colonized you have to let the MC cover the entire cake also green is a contam if any have it trash it immediately or it will infect he rest not that those cake will even survive to grow any shrooms.

he did say he jumped the gun a little bit and put them in the fruiting chamber early.... the brown is verm, not suposed to colonized the verm layer, though it will sometimes. also he's getting shrooms off some of them soo.....

you may not have ever heard of dunk and roll, thats why his cakes appear to not be fully colonized... that and the fact that some of them weren't, which he already stated he made that mistake..

I don't usually do cakes when I grow shrooms I do bulk grows in 10 35gal rubbermaid tubs, but every jar I have ever done has been completely covered, also yes I do know about dunking and the rolling.you name it and I've done it when it comes to shrooms and i have never seen such a pitiful attempt.

No need to be so Abrupt Kind Sir.

What's up with that ?

RH....Relative Humidity right? I did some shopping tonight and bought my incubator supplies and a small fan to make sure I have been getting rid of any stagnant air.

I have been studying a few ways to keep my terr more humid being there is no one home for at LEAST 8 hrs of each day to check on them. I saw a method of putting a jar of water in the middle of the cakes and hooking up a airstone to keep the air humid and oxygenated. Also saw another tek using hydroton and airstones at the bottom of the terr. But for the meantime I will keep misting and fanning. Every time I check back, I notice a few more pins.

All of the cakes that werent fully colonized were put in one drawer of my terr. So I think Im going to take those out and bury them with some horseshit in a spot outside tommorow. Not really hoping for anything, but who knows. I live in the humid south. Shrooms grow everywhere.

Any tips on how to keep my terr more humid? And by the way, thanks for all the encouragement. Piss on any mfer who wants to talk shit...Ive been studying this forum for over a yr now. And just started posting a month or so ago...So I have already figured out who the knowledgeable members on here are.

Again, THANK YOU to all who want to post with any tips and encouragement! I have most def seen how much of a learning experience this is. And I am having a blast learning it!! I do appreciate being in contact with people who are KIND enough to share there knowledge. And my next attempt is going to be in a log for all to input along the way....

One more thing before I hit the sack...I followed ResearchKittys log on her "bulk" jar grow. All but 4 of my 12 jars were fully colonized. I even left them in the jars for a week after the 8 were completely white. The only thing I noticed diff from here pics were that I didnt have any pinning in the jars before I dunked. They looked EXACTLY the same when I put them under for 24 hrs. I then rolled them. I shit you not, her pics looked exactly like what my bathroom looked like during these steps.

The only things I have been worried about is: the fact that I did not have a constant temp incubator during colonization. But, I took that in consideration when it took 6 wks till I birthed them. And also that my terr is in a closet. Yes, i completely cleaned it before I used it. But, I have had no fresh air flow in there except for my fanning. And also the whole "being gone to work all day" situation. I asked my wife to come home to check on them, but we are both very busy business professionals who live in the sticks. So that is not always an option.

But since Im seeing pins and getting all these tips, my hopes are up and whatever I get out of this week be a lesson learned!

I am really looking foward to this next grow...Talk to you all tomorrow....
