"Controlled Release Fertilizers" like Osmocote, Apex, etc. and ... Coco... or others

I'm going to mess around with controlled release. I'm not looking to break any world records. In fact I was hoping to run moms on blumats in coco, with controlled release. The other one is a test on trashed/reclaimed grower soil. Unfortunately I can't find a reference on CR ferts. My trash soil and... all trash soil apparently is pretty well overstuffed with potassium these days due to the over "sugaring" during bloom. I wanted to find an NPK of "high-high-nothin" but to no avail. I've been cookin the pots and flushing them but it's just not going to come down far enough to use a 14-14-14 or therabouts.

Also i wanted to find controlled release micros like os+. Also, some shake n' feed products have extra calcium. I've found just about everything in solid "controlled release" form but no good single reference for comparison. In coco i think i need some extra k, mg, ca. Not entirely sure how it's going to go but i was going to continually sample the effluent just to see what is going on.

Also, i'm interested in controlled release, not time release. Any help is appreciated!

I have used Osmocote Plus indoors in soil with solid results. It contains both calcium and magnesium and the ratios of NPK, 15-9-12, is near perfect for container growing. Just a little extra P and K is needed later in flower with some strains......I have also seen hempy grows using it that were pretty amazing. It just make take a little more time to get things tuned in over other nutes...

Thanks for the resource! The search function on that site, and through google (using xxx site:agr.wa.gov) lists outdated links, so I had to do some serious workarounds. needless to say I got only a little bit done, but I found 4 favorites. I would really like for someone to take a look at my spreadsheet. each of the 4 products i found have benefits and drawbacks.

in short the os+ has no calcium but it is one of 2 that has copper
the x-calibur has plenty of calcium but is pretty much stripped on the micros and half of the mag is water soluble
the miracle grow veg/tomato has a little less calcium, regular amount of mag and a considerable zinc level
the dynamite has a bit of calcium a lot of zinc and a considerable amount of other micros

In sum, i honestly don't know how much calcium i need using these metrics. no clue. The best simple mix is probably os+ and shake n' feed. The problem is that shake n' feed looks like it has considerable levels of oddball, unnecessary, and potentially harmful metals. Why? Not sure.

The other mix i like is x-calibur plus os+. This takes care of calcium magnesium and the cal/mag ratio. It has a good additive npk raio. The coats are different as os is oil based and the x-calibur is polymer based. Os tends to react to moisture and temp whereas x-calibur is temp only (essentially). Nothing is missing in this mix. Anyone want to share some opinions? The work i put in here (1 hour) is an attempt to prevent predictable problems in the future. All help is much appreciated. I'll post pics and a grow journal if i can get some backup here.

The biggest unknown is what level of cal and mag on this scale are useful. I'll test my tap water as well. I

Osmoscote Plus contains 1.9% calcium and 1.4% magnesium. Ideally you want a 3:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium. I think they take into account the elements in most tap water hence their closer ratio of cal too mag.

Hey it sounds like we got a similar idea on growing. I'm trying to switch over to a similar setup to what drewbot is talking about. In hempys I use Carl Poole's CRF its 13-13-13 but no calcium so I add 2tbsp/gallon dolomite lime. I'm trying to optomise it now when i switch to coco but not sure how. I just started using espoma
Bio-tone® starter in addition to Carl Poole in some mama's with blumat jrs and its been a month and good results so far. Espoma has a good amount of calcium/ microflora but no micronutrients. I just found out about fox farm happy frog TR nutrients and want to try them out next.

Osmocote is very good stuff, it only activates when the temps are warm not when watered like other cheap nutes, so when its cold (winter) the osm doesnt release nutes but mid summer (full veg time) is when the granules release the nutes, not cheap though its $180 for 20kg. Standard multipurpose fert is $30 for 25kg for comparison. I get the 3-4 month instead of the 6-7 month osm.
