brilliant...

any1 want to help me?

how are plants sapposed to be put in such brutal looking mediums in the first place? marbles dont retain water... and even harder question is, in a cup full of marbles how the hell do the roots find their way PAST them and accurately leak through the holes down into the reservoir??

there are always people who use the simplest cheapest ways and have great results. im just trying to gain the common knowledge of... how...

sorry i had to actually work today otherwise i would have gotten back to you sooner.....after you get the plants roots cleaned just put them in your cups....honestly i dont know how well styrofoam is gonna work you need to atleast use plastic cups and drill holes that are a little smaller than the marbles...from the very bottom to half ways up the cup....then put in a few marbles.....then your plant...then gently pour in your marbles....roots are fragile but not that fragile....sometimes when they are in my buckets i have to take some out....so dont worry so much about the marbles crushing the roots....the roots will grow through the cracks between the marbles....youll be alright if you do this

i also think hydro will work out better for you...check out my dwc thread.....might have some ideas for ya
all that equipment seems so expensive. but ur basicly my savior right about now. lol

well i guess u could look at my dwc system as a kiddy system. i havent been making enough money for anything lately since i was laid off =(. getting by on fast food salad and chili right now...

anyway did u check out my dwc components i gathered thus far yet?
so far this is what i have toward my system:

1 Air pump
1 longass airstone
a small bin merely 1.3feet or so by 1.5feet. its in those pictures would that be enough for a small-scale system?

i can get plastic cups. and yikes yet again i am without a drill :(. easiest way to punch holes??

and what vital parts am i missing so far? or better yet, is what i have usable? i also can only afford CFLs.

thanks tokemasterflex u explained it nice and clear to me.

EDIT: longass airstone... long ass. longass isnt a brand. lol

you need more cfls too 6500k is best for veg, if you look through my journal youll see my clf veg room :)
looks like u out-budgeted me too . well gearwise.

but i live in hawaii so i have no need for thermostats or the like. how much do 6500k cfls cost for you? would u mind telling me what brand they are (for easy find)?

thank you too.

take a screwdriver and get it really hot.....then just stab through the cup....itll take a long ass time unless you have a torch and stink but you can do it.......ive started like that before...........drill broke couldn't afford another one at the time so thats what i did...:weed: if you dont have a screwdriver and torch you could use a butter knife and your stove top...just make lots of holes....wait for the plastic to cool down before you try and take out the stringy pieces they get hot...lol..
or you can buy neopream plugs from the grow store for like 38 cents apiece...then cut out holes in your lid start your hole out just barely smaller than the disc..use a razor blade for best results.....

flowering side cost a bit more.
cfl side was like 60$ total to make hoods and pay for bulbs
bulbs - 7$ for 2 at walmart :)
brand doesnt matter, they just need to say 6500k or daylight

oh right! wattage, thats another thing. the highest is 23 whats up with that?

i heard the higher the wattage, the more lumens. does "6500k" reffer to lumen?

Much, much more light. Those are warm whites you're using in the pic there.More light=more photosynthesis=more and faster growth.
I use 3 23Watt CFLs from Sylvania. no clue what the lumen output is or how many thousand ks there are. all i know is while im working in there the lights leave me seeing blotches of black across my eyesight so their bright enough to blind.

the picture i provided is actualy on the only surface im able to use. and that black bin reservoir will neatly fit in that space with an inch left on all corners. so yes the space is as tight as a thai... nvm

btw, that paper towel roll i placed in the picture is so you guys know the approximate size of my res.
There's higher wattage. The "K" is kelvin, or color temperature of the light.^500 k is "cool" or closer to the blue end of the spectrum, 2700k is "warm" or closer to red.Remember, blue before red.Blu=veg, red=flower.http://www.1000bulbs.com/Light_Bulbs/Incandescent_Light_Bulbs/300_Watt_Incandescents/300_Watt_CFL_Equivalents/9183/?&utm_source=Froogle&utm_medium=shopping+site&utm_campaign=Froogle+datafeed This next one is 3000k, but it's large, and close enough unless you want to get a bunch of small 2700k's.http://www.1000bulbs.com/85-Watt-Compact-Fluorescents/9182/

i mean no disrespect, but thats the exact opposite of what others have said about kelvins:wall: most people here are saying 6500k for veg, 2700k for flower. actualy my pic isnt a good representation of the lighting, its a camera phone pic. every time i take a pic of it its orangish but in reality its very white

main thing is, i need to find 6500k and 2700k lights >_>
